WP admin: not recognizing username or email when trying to recover password

I misplaced my wp admin password this morning and tried to go through the “lost password” process in order to recover my account. To my dismay, WP did not recognize my username or email address, so would not send recovery link. I’ve been using my username and email for years in wp admin–they are listed in my user profile, and what I log in with. I’m concerned that my legitimate info is not being recognized, and that I could potentially be locked out with no recourse. Is there anything I can do? What should I have to prove it’s my account if needed?
