    Hello,

We’re facing an issue where if we archive unsubscribe contacts in MailChimp the next time the plugin syncs it reverts all the archived unsubscribed contacts back to unarchived and we are charged for those contacts. This becomes quite costly as we have many thousands of contacts. Is this a known issue and is there anything we can do about it?

    Regards,
    Jonah

    Hey Jonah,

Archived Mailchimp contacts should remain archived even on a full store resync.

Could you provide us with a bit more details so that we can try to replicate this issue.

What is meant by the “next time the plugin syncs“? Is this a full resync or the Automatica update of an order or contact profile?

What is the URL of the store? If you would like to provide details such as these more privately feel free to fill out this form

    Hi Jordan,

Yes that’s what we were expecting as well. What I meant by “next time the plugin syncs” was I assumed the plugin automatically synched but it sounds like this is not the case. Could it happen via manual Resync?

We were told by Mailchimp support that “it’s not because our archived segments become unarchived, but because one of the woocommerce plugins syncs the contacts in woocommerce to mailchimp”.

So somehow a plugin is synching the contacts in WooCommerce to Mailchimp and it’s causing all the archived contacts to become unarchived. The only known integrations I can see in the Mailchimp integrations page are: Facebook, Instagram, WooCommerce, Yotpo, Gravity Forms, and Sumo. Not sure what this last one is but I’ll dig into it on my end.

From this list do you know of any that could cause this behavior?

I’ll also share with you a few more specific details via the form link you shared.

    Thanks!

Hello, just checking in as I haven’t heard anything back on this and still need help. I filled out the form via the link you sent. Can you please follow up?

Hey Jonah, Apologies for the delay in response.

We’ve received your information on the form and attempted to look it up in our back-end system and were unable to. To help move forward could you enable Remote Diagnostics found within the Mailchimp for Woocommerce plugin under the Settings tab.

By design the Mailchimp plugin syncs automatically there isn’t a manual process involved.

The plugin would only sync either on initial sync or every time an order update is created or customer/user profile, order, product, discount code is updated. When that occurs a sync is triggered to send that data back to Mailchimp.

In regards to the unarchiving behaviour, I ran the following test.

    1. Unsubscribe a MailChimp contact that is also a customer with a WP user account
    2. Verified that the WP user account shows as unsubscribed
    3. Archived this contact in Mailchimp
    4. Performed a profile update to the wp user account
    5. Performed a full store resync as an additional test
    6. The Contact in MailChimp remained subscribed .

Could you outline in steps such as these exactly how the issue is encountered in your store?

It’s quite possible that a 3rd party plugin could be at play causing the issues. To zero in on what might be the cause we recommend if possible deactivating those plugins temporarily while troubleshooting.

    Hey Jordan,

Thanks for the reply! In working with Mailchimp support, and your reply also confirms it, it appears that the issue I reposted isn’t happening. So it was a false alarm.

    Closing this out!

    Hey Jonah,

Glad Mailchimp support was able to help sort things out.

    You’re welcome.
