• I just posted to my blog. In that post I made a reference to a previous post of mine (same blog).

Once I published it, I noticed that an entry was added to my “Recent Comments” in my right nav. I’m using the new Blix theme in case this information is needed and running WP 1.5.

This is behavior I wasn’t expecting. I’d like to be able to reference my posts, so how do I keep it from happening?

    My blog is: https://www.familywebwatch.com/blog/

Any help is very much appreciated! ??

  • You sent yourself a trackback! Trackbacks show up in the comments list. (Or is it a ping? I get confused between the two.)

When you are posting, there is a check box to ping any urls listed, so if you know you are referencing yourself, you could uncheck that, then it shouldn’t happen.

Ahh, I see now. Thanks, oriecat!

Hmm, I must be misunderstanding something. I went to the editing panel of the post and unchecked the Discussion > Allow Pings checkbox; that’s the only thing I saw that seemed to fit your description. The post is still referenced in the comments section. So my questions are:

    1. is there another checkbox/setting I should be looking at?
    2. if I did uncheck the correct checkbox, doesn’t that also mean any post I publish with that unchecked that no other service is notified to that post being published?

Again, thanks for your help. ??

To get rid of that one, you would need to delete it from Manage Comments.

Hmm, I am not seeing the field I was thinking about earlier… I was either remembering something wrong, or something got changed… I have to look into this…

    Got it. ??

So going forward, if I ever want to include a reference to one of my posts again, I should publish as is WITH the allow pings checkbox checked and delete the comment?

I seem to recall a plugin that’s supposed to help with referencing posts, but don’t recall the name. I’ll check out the repositories.

Here’s what I was talking about:

See #6 on that screen. You could turn off to not send pings when you posted. But that seems to be missing now!

So yeah, for now,I would say, leave it all checked and just delete the comment ping when you get it, because if you uncheck allow pings, then you wouldn’t get them from outsiders either.
