The plugin shares my blog post to LinkedIn correctly, but the link in the LinkedIn post back to my blog post always goes to a 404 Page not found page. I have to edit the LinkedIn post manually with the correct url to my blog post.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @shefi,

What should the link go to?

    Thanks,

Thanks. It should go here: https://academicwritingsensei.sheffnersweb.net/blog/goodbye-students/

The problem might be on LinkedIn’s end as LI automatically change my blog post link to their own customized one. But their customised links always go to “page not found”.

I just created a test post

    https://academicwritingsensei.sheffnersweb.net/blog/test-post/
It appears properly on LI but LI’s back link https://lnkd.in/gAAJxD6b goes to page not found instead: https://academicwritingsensei.sheffnersweb.net/blog/test-post/for
I have to manually copy my WP blog link then go to my LI post and edit (paste) the link. Then it works.

    Hi @shefi,

This just doesn’t make sense, something is not right.

I think there’s 2 possibilities here maybe. Firstly, can you please send a screenshot of the post edit page of: https://academicwritingsensei.sheffnersweb.net/blog/goodbye-students/ showing our share metabox. I want to see if there’s anything weird with your share message template.

The other possibility is you have some plugin or custom code which is changing the link of the post. Our plugin uses the get_permalink function to determine the link of the post (and this is what is sent to LinkedIn): https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/get_permalink/

There is no other way (really) or better way to get this link. Maybe if there’s custom code or plugin which is mucking around with the permalinks maybe it is affecting the normal functionality of this function (because the function does have filters which have the potential to be manipulated), I am not sure. So you can try using a basic theme and deactivating all other plugins and see how that goes – to rule that possibility in or out.

    Thanks,

I attach screenshot of edit page showing just the metabox.

I deactivated all. my plugins (except WP LinkedIn Auto Publish of course) and switched theme to Twenty Twenty-Four.

I published another blog post (one I had never published to LinkedIn) but got the same result – page not found.

Original blog post URL – https://academicwritingsensei.sheffnersweb.net/blog/matsuo-basho-the-narrow-road-to-the-north/

    LinkedIn back link – https://lnkd.in/gkHs2nrr

    Hi @shefi,
In your share message, please put a space between [POST_LINK] and [POST EXCERPT] this could very well explain the issue.

    Thanks,

    Hi, Northern Beaches,

Added a space between [POST_LINK] and [POST EXCERPT]?. Made no difference. Problem persists. Thanks for playing! I give up.

FYI, I think I have fixed the problem. In my WP settings, my permalink structure was set to “Post name”. This always resulted in LinkedIn’ back link going to a 404 page not found.

I changed the permalink to “Plain” and now the LinkedIn back link seems to go to the correct page.

    You’re welcome.

    Hi @shefi,

Fantastic to hear and good job working that out. I will need to take note of this should this come up again!

    Thanks ??

While glad for a workaround, we really need to use permalinks with the “Post name” format. We also use WPML so our website has an additional “/en” for the URL. When we post with Post name the URL should be: https://ibssgroup.com/en/news-wakefield-accelerator/
However, LinkedIn is showing https:///en/news-wakefield-accelerator/ (the domain is missing)

I hope that there is a solution that will allow the correct post name based URL to be reflected in LinkedIn’s posting.

    Thanks,

    Hi @ronsnow1,

You should create another thread for this issue. But our plugin uses the standard: get_permalink function to get the posts permalink. I would have thought that other plugins, like WPML, would filter the permalink. I can create a developer filter so you can manipulate the link shared for a given post ID, but I honestly can’t see how that would be terribly useful as get_permalink should work for 99% of people.
