• I’m building a new website: https://www.brandongaudin.com/newsite

I’m using the Clean Home theme by MidMo Design: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/clean-home

I would greatly appreciate assistance with several changes I’m trying to make:

1 – Nav Bar Active Link – Currently, when you hover over the links in the nav bar, they highlight and change colors. How do I make it stay this way for whatever page is active??

2 – Firefox working, IE not – Right now, in Firefox everything on the site appears correctly…but in IE, only the main (blog) page appears. When you click on the other pages, the header is still there but no sidebar or content. Why?

3 – Space before/after images – When I post an image on a page, there is a ton of space automatically inserted above the photo, how do I change this? The page in particular where I notice this is: brandongaudin.com/newsite/video

4 – Page Titles – Each page title has very small font and is very close to the grey line at the bottom of the header. How do I increase the font size and move the page title further down?

5 – Links – All links inside a post are automatically black, where do I change the color?

6 – Space above Header – There’s too much white space above my header on the top of the page…how do I remove some of it?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Sorry to be blunt, but I would recommend picking another theme. This one has not been updated for almost two years. And a quick look around at the plug-in author’s site and here in the WordPress support threads indicates lots of problems.

Do you (or does anyone else) have a clean, relatively simple and sharp looking theme in mind?

I chose this theme because it wasn’t cluttered but also didn’t look outdated.

I searched for a full day for themes…and couldn’t find anything else like it. Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

OK, call me a Wimp, but I like Twenty Ten, the default theme:

Here is a sample of what I do with it:

and without the sidebar (a simple choice you can make for each page):

You can change colours and a few other things right from the Admin Panel.

P.S. – you want really simple? Take a look at this:
    https://www.radiowest.ca/wprw/?page_id=6
It does pass the requirements for Themes as it lacks a sidebar, etc., so I can’t put it in the Theme Directory.

Thank you, but I don’t think twenty ten theme fits what I’m going for.

Do you have any others in mind?

If not, I guess I’ll have to go with the one I’m trying now. Do you know how to fix those simple issues I have?

#2 is certainly not a simple issue. Getting a Theme to work across all browsers can be a huge undertaking, of which Cross Browser Testing is only a part of it. Take a good look at the Theme Review Process:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Theme_Review

Older themes, like this one, have not gone through this process. Plus, with each new version of WordPress, Themes must be reviewed, fully tested and often corrected to get them to work with the lastest version.

As a result, using a Theme that has not been updated for the latest version of WordPress is just asking for grief. Trust me, I’ve been there. When IE8 came out, I was young and foolish and tried to write my own Theme, and ended up with one that ONLY worked in IE8. Not IE7, not Firefox, etc.
