Hello. After the latest WordPress update, I am encountering an issue with the “product search” widget. Basically we have the widget added in the site header with the option “button only” and “use button with icon”. This way we have a simple search icon that opens the search field when you click it. But after the latest WP update, it appears like in the image attached, a search field on top of a search button instead of the icon, they’re not even inline. No matter what option I choose in the widget, the “button outside” option remains active. I have deactivated all the plugins, changed the theme, but nothing, the problem is persistent.

I’ve tried hiding the search field by targeting it with “display:none”, but then it doesn’t open when you click the magnifier icon.

We are using the premium version of Astra theme, contacted the support with this issue, they’ve investigated it, replicated it and told us that it is a WordPress problem. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Hey there, @stefangociu! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

I added the widget to my website and was not able to replicate this issue.

I was also not able to see the issue on the website you mentioned, https://accacia.ro.

When I clicked on the icon, the search bar showed normally.

Were you able to solve the issue? If not, can you share more details on where you are seeing it?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hi Carol. I wasn’t able to solve this issue. I apologize, you can’t see it on our live website because right now we have a simple search bar widget, not the product search bar. This is a workaround until we get it fixed.

We would like to have the product search bar though because the current one searches through everything, not just the products.

You can see the issue on our staging website tool, at the link below:

    https://staging.accacia.ro

The same problem, even though the “button only” option is activated, the search field appears too, on top of the search icon and messes the whole header.

The staging website is password protected, so it doesn’t get indexed by search engines. The access password is beepbeep

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hey, @stefangociu!

    Thanks for clarifying.

Please note that, for security reasons, we are not allowed to access password-protected websites, and sharing the password here goes against the guidelines, so please remove the password from your last message.

I understand you don’t want the site to be indexed, does your host have the option to hide the site from search engines so you can have it public?

Since we weren’t able to replicate this issue on our end, it would be great to be able to check the staging site so we can take a look.

Also, I understand you already contacted Astra and they said this is not an issue with them. But on your staging site, have you already tried switching to the Storefront theme to check if the issue persists?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

I understand, thank you for letting me know. I have disabled the password protection and now you can access staging without any restriction. I don’t think there will be a problem to leave it without password for a few days.

Yes, I have tried the Storefront theme and unfortunately the issue persists (screenshot below).

Let me know if I can help you with more details.

    Thank you,

    Stefan.

    Hello Stefan,

    Thank you for your reply.

I tested the Search block on my test site and it is working as expected.
My site is using the default Twenty Twenty-Four theme.

Here is a screencast for your reference:

Could you please share screenshots of the settings of the Search block?
I want to review the settings and make sure everything is set up correctly.

I look forward to your response. ??

    Hello Zubair,

Sorry for my late reply. Here is a screenshot attached below:

From what I’ve seen, the main problem is that the search bar doesn’t dissapear. For example the no button option works, only the search bar remains, but if I try the button inside or button only, nothing changes, the widget looks like in the photo attached.

Also I can’t change the background and text colors for the widget. I believe something overwrites those settings, but I can’t figure out why. This is persistent even with a default theme. I will try disabling the plugins, maybe there’s a conflict with one of them.

I’m back with an update. Tried again with a different theme, disabled all the plugins except WooCommerce and the problem still persists. ??

    Hi @stefangociu,

Thank you for sharing the additional details. The first thing that comes to my attention is that the WordPress is not at its latest version. Since you have a staging site, can you please try running all pending updates there and seeing if the issue persists?

If the issue still persists, I’d recommend running a full conflict test to help you identify the cause of the issue. More info is available at?https://woo.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/.

Looking forward to resolving this issue for you.

    Hi there ?? ,

Hello. I have updated everything, WP, theme and all plugins. I have tried doing every step from the conflict page, but the result is still the same. I did everything from below:

    1. Update?all your plugins and themes. In some cases conflicts can be resolved by using the latest versions of your site software. New releases of software not only include new features, but security and bug fixes too.
    2. Switch?to a default WordPress theme, such as Twenty Nineteen to see if the issue persists.
      • If no, your theme is causing the issue. You can: a) change your theme; b) contact the author of the theme and ask them to fix it.
      • If yes, go to the next step.
    3. Temporarily deactivate?all plugins except WooCommerce and the WooCommerce extensions you’re experiencing issues with.
    4. Test if the conflict still exists. – the problem still persists.

    Hello @stefangociu,

Thanks for sharing updates on the issue. This is indeed unusual.

Could you please try uninstalling and reinstalling WooCommerce and then check if this issue persists?

Let us know how it goes.

Hello. Tried that too, the no button option still doesn’t work :(.

    Hi @stefangociu,

I just checked your site and this is what I see currently for the header’s search widget: https://prnt.sc/3TQFqr3OcWbB. Can you please show us your set up for this search form in the back end? We’ll learn more once you do.

Additionally, I tried a search and it’s working, but I had to type the enter key, as there’s no button or icon currently to search.

    Thanks!
