Red error message when sending an email from a contact form

Hi Heike, maybe it’s a problem with United Domains – since I have the same problem (see my request from yesterday).

Yes, I have read your forum post. And that’s why I checked with United domains. Domain and mailboxes are fine. No disk space problem or anything like that.
Have you checked with United Domains?
You have an orange border, I have a red one – does that make a difference in this question?

I have no idea, just that my webmaster and I tried a lot of things. Have written a mail to the UD support but no news yet.

I have installed the “Check & Log Email” plugin and those mails are not sent, too.

Also I’ve installed the Flamingo Plugin which saves (for me at least) the messages by contact forms even when the mails aren’t sent to the mail address. But of course that’s just a temporary solution.

Hi Heike, it seems like I’ve solved the problem by using the plugin “wp mail smtp” with the smtp server of UD via [other smtp server] (https://www.united-domains.de/help/faq-article/wie-lauten-die-smtp-daten/). Not sure if this is really secure, but it works for now. Important is to use the name/pw of the mail and not the main UD account

Also not sure if it will solve your problem since it might have been a bit different (red warning, checkmail worked).

ich habe Antwort vom United Domain Support.

Da wir in den letzen Monate feststellen konnten, dass Kontaktformulare unserer Kunden massiv durch Spam Bots ausgenutzt wurden, mussten wir einen ausgehenden Spam Filter für per phpmail() versendete Nachrichten aktivieren.
Dies war erforderlich, da ansonsten unsere IP-Adressen auf Blacklisten eingetragen werden und somit Nachrichten nicht zugestellt werden k?nnen.

Es besteht auch die M?glichkeit ein Protokoll zu erstellen, wenn eine E-Mail über die Mail-Funktion versandt wird. Hierzu kann in dem mit dem Webspace verknüpften Verzeichnis eine Datei mit dem Namen ?.user.ini“ und folgendem Inhalt erstellt werden.

mail.log = absoluter-pfad/maillog.txt

Der Eintrag ?absoluter-pfad“ muss ersetzt werden. Hierzu kann eine PHP-Datei mit einem beliebigen Namen und nachfolgendem Inhalt auf dem Webspace übertragen und aufgerufen werden. Die Ausgabe enth?lt den ben?tigten Eintrag:

Das Protokoll wird dann in einer Datei mit dem Namen ?maillog.txt“ im verknüpften Verzeichnis erstellt.

Wird keine Datei geschrieben, dann wird die ?mail()“ Funktion nicht aufgerufen und es besteht ein Fehler im Script.

Die Nutzung der PHP-Funktion ?mail()“ hat generell den Nachteil, das hierbei im Return-Path (?mail form“) keine individuelle Absenderadresse angegeben werden kann. Wenn E-Mails aus irgendwelchen Gründen nicht zugestellt werden k?nnen, erh?lt man daher keine Benachrichtigung. (Das kann z.B. auch ein volles E-Mail-Postfach sein).

Als Alternative zur PHP-Funktion mail() k?nnte die E-Mails auch direkt über den SMTP-Server unserer E-Mail-Pakete (?smtp.udag.de“) versandt werden.

Für WordPress steht hierfür ein Plugin zur Verfügung.
