A backend ‘ad’ appears every time an admin area loads a different section and won’t go away upon clicking the close button: “Exciting news! Widget Options is now a Gutenberg Block-Enabled plugin.” Every time I click the close window, it goes away and then comes back on every page reload. What an annoyance!

Great extension but yes the advertisement is driving me crazy. Please get rid of it asap!

Not sure what happened but it magically disappeared. I disabled the plugin, cleared the cache, re-enabled it, got the annoying message again and clicked close and it hasn’t come back. Maybe they turned off the Push notification on their end.

It doesn’t work for me… I deactivated the plugin then cleared the caches… but it always comes back after reactivating the plugin…
Imagine if all plugin authors did this… our dashboards would be nothing more than advertising screens!

Hey @gilles24 and @ahawtin and @tneveu — sorry about that issue! Thanks for reporting it. Our team will look into what may be causing it to remain up even after cleared and will get that fixed.

@gilles24 Did you clear the Browser cache and any caching plugins you might be using like WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, etc…?

@marketingfire I was able to replicate the issue on your Demo website.

Same problem here. Clearing caches doesn’t help.

We are experiencing the same issue as well, in Production and in all 3 of our test & development environments. It is quite infuriating to have to either live with the message because clicking dismiss is not permanent or clicking dismiss 100s of times over the last week on a multisite on every subsite we work on. At least we’ve disabled these nag messages for our regular users and it only shows for Admins otherwise we might have some explaining to do or remove the plugin all together.

I also think the new block options in the editor should be an opt-in feature not an automatic default as this is adding additional confusion for our current blocks as it inserts these options into the meta boxes of our current blocks which we never notified our users that this would show up out of no where.

We like the plugin and it has a lot of great features and I can’t wait to experiment with the block level widgets but until these bugs are fixed I am waiting before looking at the developer license.

Does this happen with the Widget Options Extended (Paid) plugin? If not, then you can find your answer: What’s different with that code?

    Dear Users,

Kindly update to v4.0.5.1. We have fixed the issue of the annoying notification. We are working hard to keep this Free plugin up to date with improved features, and I regret that I mis look this simple issue that lead our Free plugin user into annoyance.

    Thanks for continues support!

    Regards,
    Mej, from Widget Options team

Why was this thread marked as “resolved”? I for one can see the message still appearing on every backend page load.

I can confirm after testing on our test server that dismissing the notification does in fact dismiss it on the page you dismissed as well as anywhere else throughout the subsite on a multisite install. We will update our production environment to apply the fix. Thank you Mej!

Yes – thankfully it is gone! Great plug-in but that was crazy since we were very busy with site upgrades.
