Categories option missing

    whenever I add a new post, the “categories” tab always took a while to load before it showed up. Now, it doesn’t show up at all, even after reloading.

    Is there any debugging steps? I’d like to categorize my posts, but without the option, I can’t.

    Currently, the options I have on the right hand panel is
    – Summary
    – Excerpt
    – Discussion

    for plugins, I’ve got Guthenberg and Otter blocks (plus Elementor, but don’t use that plugin when making posts)

    First, make sure you’re writing a post, not a page.

    If it’s definitely a post, this problem may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to deactivate all plugins and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-Three theme. If the problem goes away, re-activate them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to deactivate all plugins and change the theme for you while you’re still logged in without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    I’ve tried changing my theme and it seems like it’s potentially the theme interfering, which could be possibly due to an update to the theme that I did a few days ago.

    Is there any thing I can do to override whatever the theme is disabling? I tried to rollback to the previous version which didn’t have this issue (it took a minute but the categories option did load), but it keeps failing.

    I believe potentially I’d have to make a child theme and put some voodoo magic code in there, right?

    I recommend reporting the issue to your theme’s support so they can help you with this.
