Feature Request: Upload table

After uploading a file it would seem to be a simple matter of recording the file name, URL of the file, and the text description. Other things could be date of upload, size of upload, etc.

If all of this data were in a table (maybe wp_uploads) it could be used to create an index/table of contents. In addition uploads could be categorized (wp_uploads2cat) in the same way that posts are categorized.
