    Hi.

Working on a local site before launch but I run into problems.

I have a (woocommerce ) site with lots of product categories and sub categories. To make my sidebar not so long I want and really need my subcategories to open on the category shop page and single product page.

    for example

    • clothing
      • shirts
      • hoodies
      • dresses
    • stationery
      • pens
      • notebooks
      • erasers

When my customer clicks on clothing.. the shop category page of clothing should only show the subcategories (shirts/hoodies/dresses) but NOT the stationery part.

When my customer clicks on the stationery it must only show the subcategory (pens/notebooks/erasers) but NOt the clothing part.

(most off canvas mobile menu’s have this option but I need this for my desktop version)

    How can this be done?

    Hello tandarts

Thank you for contacting Woo support.

Are you trying a create a Navigation Menu on the sidebar where Clothing is a parent category with shirts, hoodies, and dresses as child categories? And the Stationary as a parent with pens, notebooks, and erasers as child categories?

So when a user clicks on Clothing, the menu expands and shows the children of the Clothing category? Then the same for the Stationary category.

    Is my understanding correct?

What you are trying to achieve is completely dependent on your Theme’s functionality and features.
To help you further, I’d like to review your site’s System Status Report.
You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

Once you’ve done that, you can paste the text in https://gist.github.com
After that, you can paste the Gist link here in your reply.

    Best regards.

    hello.

A dropdown menu is not what I mean.
what I mean is that when my visitor clicks on “the clothing” link a new sidebar opens with only the subcategories of the clothing area.

    Hello tandarts

    Thank you for the clarification.

This kind of feature is completely dependent on the theme you are using.
WooCommerce only provides core ecommerce features and it is the responsibility of the theme how it shows the content.

I recommend you consult a local web developer or contact one at Codeable.io.
They will have experience and knowledge about various themes and if needed, they might build a custom solution for you.

I hope this sets you in the right direction. ??

    Best regards.
