    Hello.

I have a Swedish news site where most the majority of text is in Swedish. The only parts of the site where some features of my Foxiz Ruby theme that I could not change to Swedish.

Examples: Hot news, Read more, Next article, Comment, Sign in ect..

I installed TranslatePress to edit these few English features. In TranslatePress settings, English was the default language and Swedish was an added language.

I translated the texts snippets, and it looks great. Now I have two problems.

    1. Users need to manually switch to the translated version by clicking on the flag, meaning that when they first enter the site, they still see the mixed site wich is not good. How do I make the translated version as default without loosing all of my translations?
    2. The other issue is that the changes are not visible on mobile. I have tried to uninstall all of my plugins but it did not fix the issue. Will it be visible on mobile if the translated version is default?

I am very thankful for your answers.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @authorj

First of all, I’m not related to this plugin (TranslatePress) in any way. I just noted that you mentioned “Swedish” and decided to have a look.

The purpose of this plugin is to create a multilingual WordPress site, for instance, have all your content available in both Swedish and English. If that’s not in your plans, then using this plugin is heavy overkill (like hiring an accountant just to check the balance of your bank account).

It should be enough to “just” make sure that the Swedish translation of your theme gets updated. Exactly how that needs to be done depends on whether your theme uses this strings in PHP code or in Javascript.

If the theme is handling translations correctly and these strings happen to be displayed by PHP code, then you could either use the “Loco Translate” plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/loco-translate/ or the software https://poedit.net/ (which you’d install on your local computer).

I tried to use Loco, but it did nothing for my site, don’t know why.

If you know how edit the theme strings I would love to learn, I don’t know wether it’s PHP or Javascript. The theme I’m using is Foxiz Ruby theme, how can i find out?

Does your theme contain any library named something like /languages/ /i18n/ or similar?

In that library, are there any file named ruby-sv_SE.po and/or ruby.pot? Are there any .json files in the same location?

    Hello,

From what I can see, TranslatePress is no longer active on your site.

Changing the default language of the site without losing translations is not possible; all content must be added in the new default language set.

However, considering that you only wish to translate certain theme strings, you can contact the theme support for assistance in this direction.

    Kind Regards,

    Anca
