I don’t know if this is supposed to be by design, but why is that when I receive a message from someone via the contact form, there email address is not in the reply-to field? This is pretty basic stuff and is handled by even the likes of Contact Form 7.

Are you seriously telling me I’ve wasted weeks setting up Spectra forms only to discover it cannot even handle the reply to field?

Yup! I’ve raised this issue with support as-well. (“I understand your frustration and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. […] We’ll add your request to our feature request list and consider it for future development.“)

The emails sent from the Spectra Form block use whatever field is named “Email” as the “From” instead of the “Reply To” which, in my case, causes DMARC authentication to fail because the domain in the “From” does not match my domain, thus causing most of these emails to end up in spam. If you have no field named “Email” the resulting email is sent from “[email protected]”.

You can modify this default behavior by installing another plugin like WP Mail SMTP, but this default behavior is obviously very bad practice and needs to be fixed. I’ve not run into this issue with any other plugin that sends email.

The other workaround I’ve found is to add a Hidden field to the form, name it “Email”, and set the value to whatever email address you want the “From” to be (in my case “[email protected]”), and then change the name of the visible email field to something else (like “Email Address”). This does appear to work, but creates the undesirable side affect of that hidden field also being included in the resulting list of form fields included in the email that is sent (not a huge deal, but obviously not pretty).

BF – You need to fix this!!! At the very least use the WordPress default “[email protected]” as the “From” address, or better yet, just add a configurable “From” in the form settings.

This is totally absurd. Why are they pushing Spectra so hard and trying to impress everyone with fancy blocks when basic functionality is not there. Fix the form block! This is why I hate FSE and it’s also why I hate it when developers are allowed to lead the product strategy.

    Hey @smallbizgeek and @jahnstek ,

I understand your frustration with the current limitations of the Spectra plugin’s form block, especially regarding the reply-to field in emails generated from the form block. It’s definitely not ideal when such a basic feature isn’t functioning as expected, especially after investing time into setting up the forms.

I want to reassure you that your feedback hasn’t gone unnoticed. I’ve already reached out to the dev team to escalate this issue. Your insights are incredibly valuable in helping us improve the plugin and provide a better user experience for everyone.

In the meantime,@jahnstek, I appreciate you sharing your workaround with the Hidden field – it’s a clever solution given the circumstances.

Thank you both for your patience and for bringing this matter to our attention. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I see Spectra 2.13.2 was released today. One item related to the Spectra Form, but unfortunately, doesn’t look like this specific issue has been addressed yet.

Hopefully will be in the next release.

Let’s keep up the pressure @jahnstek

A lot of people coming onto WordPress have come from the Wix market and have no absolutely no sodding clue what makes a website work properly, so they don’t even know that this is a problem. I’m having to use Contact Form 7 with Spectra which I wanted to avoid because it’s yet another plugin, but frankly, it’s among one of the few contact forms worth having (outside of Gravity Forms et al).

If Spectra can address some of the fundamental bugs and missing vital functionality instead of distracting everyone with the “ra ra ra, ain’t these blocks cool?” nonsense, serious developers are more likely to get in the Spectra marketing funnel and actually buy the full suite.

    Hi @jahnstek and @smallbizgeek,

I understand how frustrating it can be to experience delays with this feature.

We have a number of important tasks in our queue, and we prioritize them based on the volume of user requests. I recognize the importance of this feature and will share your feedback with the development team to improve it.

Thank you for your patience, and have a great day!
