• I changed the admin settings to now add WWW in my url.

I’ve only got about 12 non WWW pages indexed by Google but will they eventually get re-indexed with the WWW in the url?

My web host says a 301 redirect is not needed for wp sites but i’m not sure. Others say a 301 redirect is needed for other search engines and for existing non WWW pages.

  • 301s would be recommended to preserve PR and external links and also prevent duplicate content penalties.

There’s no bscklinks..site’s only a few months old so PR is also negligible

Google and other search engines will index your pages on their own, using your preferred domain (with or without WWW). But if you’d like to ensure this, or just hasten the process, you can set a preferred domain with Google’s webmaster tools:

    Zota,

Have you set the preferred domain using GWT?
I did that but it asks you to verify and add the non WWW site as well.
Do you know if you can eventually delete the non WWW site from GWT or does it have to stay there permanently?

I’ve mostly set my preferred domains with Google as non-www.

Your choice is not permanent. And with most servers these days, it also doesn’t really matter very much.
