• I’m sure I’m just missing something very obvious and elementary here, but I’m not able to display albums in a row next to each other. When I add [album id=x template=compact] the albums are displayed in a vertical, rather than horizontal row, that is one under the other. What I want is for them to be displayed in the same way they are in the comoact view example on the plugin page here.

  • Check if you have album-compact.php in /nextgen-gallery/view/.

    Yes, it’s there.

Then it should be using that template. Perhaps try reinstalling the plugin files?

Just like to clarify. You said that the albums are displayed vertically, are you referring to extend view or compact view displayed vertically? If it’s the latter then it would be a CSS issue.

It’s the latter, compact view. It’s basically showing pretty much in the same way as the extend view, only without the texts and smaller. Can’t show what it looks like as it’s not up at the moment.
Haven’t tried re-installing yet as I wouldn’t want to mess up the existing galleries and front page slide show. It probably won’t though, so I guess that’s next.

I’ve now tested on two different sites, on different servers and have the same problem on both, also when viewed in different brosers.
Additionally, a worse problem is that if the gallery/album has more than a few images, only some of them are showing (like 3 out of 9), the other are blank but do show up when I click on the blank square so they’re there, just not showing. Beginning to look like I’m going to have to look for another plugin…

it sounds like a CSS, specificity, issue with the compact view. The default CSS have them floated left so they flow horizontally.

For you second problem, it sounds some of the thumbnails are missing. You can try regenerate the thumbnails manually in Manage Gallery.

Regenerating the thumbnails helps to restore part of them, uploading them one by one seems to work (although obviously it would be nice to be able to upload all at once though).
Any suggestions as to where to look if it is a css issue? I’m using the PageLines StationPro Theme which should be optimised to work with NextGen Gallery and even has several built-in features like a carousel template page that can be used with NextGen (I have asked the developers as well, but any suggestions would be welcome).

I think you should open another thread or contact Alex, the plugin author, regarding the thumbnail issue.

If you’re using Firefox, install Firebug and inpect the elements to see which rules are written over and which are in effect. IE, Chrome and Opera all have similar tools and are inlcuded by default.

Yes, the thumbnail issue just came up ‘accidentally’, it’s not the issue here. I have checked the page with Dragonfly but didn’t find anything that would seem to stand out. Font size, line height, margin (could that be it?), background colour and a couple of other background related rules were about the only overwritten ones.
I couldn’t provide a link earlier because there wasn’t one, here’s a link to a test page. There seems to be something odd going on with the aligning of the gallery thumbnails as well. In the third gallery, ‘Kotka’, the last thumb is placed on the right side of the page rather than left, whereas in ‘Keuruu’ the bottom row is aligned to the left…

Ok, I see where the problem is. You’ve misunderstood how compact view works. It only list albums and galleries that are within the album called by the shortcode horizontally, and what you have is three separate compact views. You should create a master album and place those three albums inside it as sub-albums.

The plugin have an issue with edited thumbnails. The second last thumbnail has a height of 74px instead of 75px which causes the last to get caught by the 1px ledge.

I’ve seen a number of threads in the past regarding it but don’t know if they’d found a solution or not. It would probably be best to start a new one for this.

Thanks a bunch, Joseph! I knew it was something elementary I was missing – just automatically presumed for some reason that it would work in the same way as adding galleries.
The last thumbnail isn’t such a major problem, there’s usually enough photos to choose from so that one solitary thumb on the last row can be avoided. Just brought it up in case it had anything to do with the other ‘problem’. ??
    Thanks again!

    You’re welcome ??
