• With the new versions that have come out there’s been the new ‘Extensions’ menu item added, and by default it shows a red nag icon unless you install the additional update manager plugin.

On sites that don’t use Woo extensions and have no use for this now or in the future, how can this nag be removed without installing that additional plugin that won’t be used in these examples?

I’m not against that menu item or that page being there, but I’ve had several clients panic about seeing that notice and thinking that there’s something wrong with their site when it’s really only just another marketing exercise.

    Hello @catacaustic,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern about the Extensions section. However, in order to remove it, you will need the help of custom coding to achieve this.

Just to inform you, we have a similar ticket here and a GitHub request was made to have our developers make some changes, here’s the direct link for the GitHub.

    I hoep this helps.

While I understand that you can’t say too much publicly, this is a horrible thing to do.

I can get the custom coding without a problem, but that removes the entire menu item, which is not the problem.

The problem is the intrusive marketing push masquerading as an “update” nag. If any other smaller plugin tries this it would be shut down hard, but it sems like the “big boys” can get away with these off-handed tactics.

And yes, I did look at the Github ticket for this… over a month old and not even an acknowledgement from Woo. That doesn’t bode well for having anything actually done about it. With that attitude, what’s even the point of watching the ticket?

    Hello catacaustic

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understand your frustration.
Rest assured, our devs have been made aware of the problem.

GitHub issues are categorized and prioritized based on the nature of the issue.
We keep track of all open issues and make sure they are resolved timely.

    Have a great day!
