    Hi Yoast SEO team,

I am experiencing an issue with the Google preview images on the website https://www.truckertools.com/. All pages display the first image that appears on the page. I used the Yoast SEO settings under “Site basics” to add a site image, which would set up an image preview for all the pages on the website using one image. However, this does not to be working.

Could you please let me know why this is happening and if there is a way to fix it?

Additionally, is it possible for the pages to show this added site image as the Google preview instead of any image from the page?

    Thank you,
    Julie

    Hello @yuliiam23

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin. The site image you upload in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > General > Site basics is a last resort. This is the hierarchy our plugin uses to choose an image:

    1. A user-defined image “Facebook image” in the Social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box.
    2. A user-defined “Featured image” for the page (only for posts).
    3. A prominent image from the page’s content.
    4. The “Social default image” from the template in Search Appearance.
    5. The site’s fallback/default social image.

This explains the behaviour you are experiencing. All pages displaying the first image that appears on the page is at level 3, higher than what you want in level 5.?</span>There’s no feature to change this hierarchy.

    Hi Maybellyne,

Thank you for providing the information. Could you please explain why the plugin uses level 3 and skips the first two levels? Also, is there a way to disable the first four levels in order to use the fifth level? I need to set up an image preview for all the pages on the website using one image. How can I do that using the Yoast SEO Plugin?

    Hi @yuliiam23

There is no specific settings to disable any particular level. To make sure only the 3rd level works, kindly check the following:

    1. Make sure there is no user-defined image “Social image” in the Social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box for the post where you are trying to show the image from the third level
    2. Make sure there is no user-defined “Featured image” for that post.

    Hi
Thank you. But I need the fifth level works, not 3rd. Could you please explain what are the steps to make 5th level works. And my question was why plugin skips the first two levels? Because now works 3rd level

    Hi @yuliiam23

You are facing the image from third level because there is a prominent image in your post or page which has higher priority over the social image from Yoast SEO > Settings > Content type. If you wish to show the image from global settings only i.e the 5th level, you will have to make sure the post or page doesn’t have any image within the content, no featured image is set and no image in the social tab within Yoast SEO metabox.

    Hi Mushrit
Just to confirm, if there are any images located on a page, they will be shown as a Google preview? For the 5th level to work, the page should be entirely without any images.?

Hello @yuliiam23, the hierarchy I shared is the default design. If you want the fifth level, you have to ensure there are no images in the first four levels.
