Having a similar issue to https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/events-template-disappear-when-elementor-plugin-is-active/page/2/#post-17813888 and tried responding there but the WordPress moderators in their infinite wisdom would rather have multiple tickets about the same issue with variations than more than one of us responding to a single issue (with variations) to cut down on the number of tickets you people have to respond to. Whatever.

It’s very simple. Elementor not active: events calendar works perfectly. Elementor Active, Events Calendar stops displaying its in-page widgets for Organizer, Venue, etc and the header breaks. We have had to roll back to The Events Calendar 6.3.7 ( An insecure version) because the bug was introduced in 6.4.0 and still not yet resolved by 6.5.0.1. PHP version is 8.1.x, wordpress is current, elementor pro is 3.21.3.

We have confirmed, (though our comments were deleted from the other post so I am attemtpting to recreate this from memory) that with 6.5.0 (and now .1) active, when you go to the Templates>Starter Templates>Single Event Template the assigned template is “The Events Calendar – Starter”, however have also noticed that if we click the tiny “All” button to show all templates, the upper list of tabs changes dramatically and now also includes both “Single Event” and “Single Event Template” which are assigned as follows:

Single Event Template – The Events Calendar — Starter
Single Event – The Events Calendar — Dynamic

The other ticket has apparently been marked ‘resolved’ in the absence of activity let alone confirmation from the end-user that it had, in fact, been resolved. So here I am to report it is most definitely not.

Your assistance would be appreciated as we cannot update past the insecure version until it is – so the matter has a certain degree of urgency.

  • Addressing this problem which various people have complained about would be awesome since, like me, it’s kinda a big deal.

    Hi @webdragon @jmsil,

We are aware of this issue, we imagined that our solution to it might have solved this particular issue you are reporting.

    When you say:

in-page widgets for Organizer, Venue, etc and the header breaks

Do you mind sharing some screenshots of the before and After? And what exactly those mean?

I am looking at the problem and would like to pinpoint the problem correctly.

If you don’t feel comfortable sharing data here, feel free to reach out on our Premium Support and mention this thread and comment back here with the ticket reference so I can find it as fast as possible.

    Thank you.

Hopefully these screenshots help clear up the problem we are experiencing

Oh and confirmed again just now that simply disabling Elementor is enough to make the page function as it should again while the current Events Calendar plugin is still running. Currently at Elementor 3.21.8 and Elementor Pro 3.21.3

I’m just going to concur that the “Starter Template” “Dynamic Template” things with multiple tabs is about as confusing and nonsensical as could be imagined and not explained at all in the documentation or the lackluster videos that accompanied the release. WTF we couldn’t just use the widgets to create a single event template like every other template in elementor is created is lost on me. I also love the fact that I can’t even delete the starter template without it regenerating, like some monster movie. At this moment, weeks later, I still don’t understand what purpose it serves.

Thank you @webdragon that is really good feedback.

We have the templates to attempt to make the transition into using The Events Calendar with Elementor easier, with the goal of building a Single Event page have start point that looks similar to how events would be normally presented without Elementor.

@webdragon I would love to see how the Admin of those events look like in Elementor, since the goal is if you have Elementor pro you should be able to use the Theme Builder to ensure that all Events are using the “Dynamic” template, meaning the one that automatically applies to all of the existing Events.

I am more than glad to chat about this to get to the bottom of the issue, I want to make sure all Elementor users have an easier on-boarding to TEC.

If you want to reach out to me privately on our support Ticketing system and mention the Ticket Ref I can potentially take a closer look. My goal is to figure out what is the behavior that is landing us on this failed state.

@jmsil, first there is no reason to be rude.

What videos are you talking about?

Also the widgets are all present and they should all be usable, are you having problems where the Widgets are not working?

Would love to actually get a report of what is your problem instead of a bunch of complaints that don’t necessarily aid us into improving the product so it’s better experience for you.

    Best Regards,

    .

@jmsil Please take a break and cool down on this before continuing.

We ask that you please be civil in these forums, rudeness is simply uncalled for.

Keep in mind that the developers of this free plugin owe you nothing, absolutely nothing, and rudeness isn’t going to inspire them to take the time to help you.

    (@webdragon)

@jmsil seeing as I was already (as I posted at the very beginning of this ticket) asked to make a separate ticket of my own to track my specific issue with, i’m going to go ahead and ask you to do the same and stop karking up mine.

@bordoni As near as I can figure, NO one has ever touched these templates in any way. Now, we did inherit this system from a former developer but this particular site had not been up for very long when we did. They were someone who came in and assisted in a transition from an old site, where the organization was forced to oust a former head honcho who wouldn’t let go the reins after losing the election to a new board president.

I don’t believe the other dev had ever modified the default template either, as things seemed to have ‘just worked’ up until this point in time — it just points to /events/list and /event/single-post-name-whatever/

I wasn’t looking to do anything fancy with the plugin in Elementor either, but I was at least presuming that the defaults would work as expected or at least not break what had existed prior to the update.

Since there appear to be TWO templates in question here, I would ask that you clarify which one you wanted to see the Elementor admin view of.

…is if you have Elementor pro you should be able to use the Theme Builder to ensure that all Events are using the “Dynamic” template, meaning the one that automatically applies to all of the existing Events.

can you clarify what you mean by this?

    Plugin Author Gustavo Bordoni

    (@bordoni)

Let me super clear @webdragon our intention was for existing users to keep working as it was before, but I can clearly see by what you are saying that that didn’t happen for you. It might be a combo of the theme you are using and our code trying to do a bit too much to help new users.

I would love to get more information from you around some settings, what do you currently have on Events template on the Display tab of your Event Settings?

Since there appear to be TWO templates in question here, I would ask that you clarify which one you wanted to see the Elementor admin view of.

I wanted to see the Admin for an event that is currently broken with the update, the templates here will only matter if you already applied one to a given Event, which doesn’t appear to be the case.

If you have Elementor Pro, the “Dynamic” template should be used in conjunction with the Theme Builder to create the shell for all of your events, so that you can manage all the internal pieces of the Events on that template, like what is displayed here on the video in the link below.

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/event-single-template-with-elementor-theme-builder/

But again, I would be glad to jump in a call or look with you a little deeper into your problem if you shoot me a message in our Premium Support and post the reference here.

We intend to keep push fixes and changes to support Elementor for all customers possible, so feedback is welcome, specially on things like this that we expected to work.

As a side note for reference all of our articles on Elementor are here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/tag/elementor/

@bordoni please don’t get the impression that I was being disparaging or dismissive in any way, I want to understand what’s happening here as much as you do, and inasmuch as I was not the one who set this up originally, I’m not as familiar with the prior let alone current innards of all the settings options (of which there appear to be a plethora)

I’m simply attempting to ask for clarifications regarding what I don’t yet understand, while providing you with as much relevant surrounding info as I can to fill in the picture for you better. I’d be more than happy to arrange a zoom/google-meet/discord chat with you and do a screenshare to help narrow down things, if that would be easiest? (My Timezone is Eastern US (GMT-4)) Although we do not currently have the premium version of the plugin, so I would understand if you were unwilling in that case.

I’ll look into the info you provided and see what I can come up with — it’s tricky because I can’t leave the newer versions of the plugin running for any length of time due to the bug, but at least WP-CLI lets me quickly roll it back once I finish testing.

    (@bordoni)

Oh don’t worry I don’t think that at all @webdragon, I understand the confusion now I think.

Go to this page here: https://my.theeventscalendar.com/get-help/

Select “Something Else” and select “The Events Calendar”, make sure to mention this thread on the content of the question.

Send me your email and I will shoot you an invite so we can go over this.

Not every customer is super responsive about these types of problems, so it’s always important for us to get good feedback so we can point the strategy in the right direction so we can fix the problem the correct way.

I think I managed to figure out what was going on – after puttering around with it for the better part of an hour, and watching that video you sent, I noticed that in Theme Builder > Single Event, the Dynamic template was not set to have any instances or conditions, and seeing as in the video they DID set that to show as a conditional to Events, I went and set that, but didn’t touch anything else and now I get the page’s appearance I (for the most part) expected, although it differs from what was previously displaying, in some small layout bits

I’m sure I can tweak those though.

I’m going to play with it some more, and will get back to you shortly, regarding whether I have any issues after this point, and if not, i will come back to report success and close the ticket.

Well… it’s *close* but not close enough.

On the Details section I can’t have a separate Start / End like I do on the original.

The Venue block doesn’t align well with the others, and I am unable to re-arrange the placement of the venue’s google map let alone its height/width to be more square like the original

The Page Title header font-size is inexplicably smaller despite being still an H1

It feels oddly like I have less control not more, considering I can’t seem to figure out how to make it look just like the original page.

    screenshots with descriptions: https://imgur.com/a/Xb39ozS

Hope this is helpful. I rolled back to 6.3.7 again for now because it just looks so much cleaner

    Plugin Author Gustavo Bordoni

    (@bordoni)

Oh yeah for sure you can, you can duplicate the Event Date widget, make the first display just the start date and the second just the end date; Does that make sense?

I think the H1 is a quirk of how Elementor handles the sizing by default, I would manually change the title size with the Style Tab on the Elementor editor.

So the Venue one is a bit different because it seems like you were using the Classic Editor or the Classic Details Block, which is something we don’t support in the Elementor Editor.

But yes there are some small differences, If you can please install it locally or on a staging site so we can check a bit further what those might be and I will create tickets for our team to take a look into the problems you are reporting.

Unfortunately since those changes are not true bugs of the functionality we might not get to it for a little bit, we are planning a set of updates to the Elementor in August and I would love to take a closer look at these small style differences, so customers have a better transition experience.

    Thread Starter WebDragon

    (@webdragon)

I might recommend, that in the interim, for elementor at least, that you look into having either a separate block for the map vs the venue contents so you can insert it specifically when and how you like, and exert control over sizing dimensions in the widget itself. (like max height or width, responsive design, etc), or having specific widget controls added to the venue block to control the display of the map.

I’ll give it another go soonish and see what other tricks I can use – your suggestion about duplicating the content seems valid; I’ll give that a try.
