Yesterday I ran the database update and it changed the modified date on all the posts with Spectra blocks. I only use the Table of Contents block, but unfortunately it is on almost all of my posts. There is no reason it should have changed the modified date on posts.

This isn’t good because Google is only wanting the modified date to change if there was a substantial change. My traffic is already a third of what it was and now I wonder if this will cause a penalty and wipe out my site from Google entirely.

I suggest changing the database update process so it doesn’t do this.

  • Wow. That’s horrible! We also rely on the modification date for terms and conditions so it could have had legal implications for us if we had run the update.

This database update is an utter mess. Luckily, we only have Spectra blocks on a few pages, so getting rid of Spectra won’t be too difficult.

18 hours ago, I submitted this post in Spectra’s Facebook group since the database updater hasn’t been retracked yet (even though it causes irreparable damage to the database that many site admins might not realize before it’s too late to just restore the latest backup).

Unfortunately, the Facebook post has not been approved yet.

The database updater released in Spectra 2.13.9 overwrites the posts’ last modified dates. If you’ve already run the updater, you might want to restore your last backup. The issue persists in Spectra 2.14.0 though it seems to only butcher the last modified date for posts with Spectra blocks.

(I’ve opened a support ticket and another Spectra user has reported the issue in the WordPress forums.)

@reneedobbs @karlemilnikka I had a similar problem when I ran the updater – it changed dates on Events (custom post type) which resulted in some events being unpublished and others saved as draft.

Luckily I had a recent backup so was able to restore my site and have now found an alternative to Spectra.

    Hi @reneedobbs, @davinian, @karlemilnikka ,

Thank you for reaching out. Before proceeding with the update to Spectra 2.14.0, could you please confirm if you have a backup of your current data?

If yes, I’m pleased to inform you that the issue you reported has been fixed and resolved in Spectra 2.14.0. Please restore the backup and then update the plugin. After the updating the plugin, run the database update, modifications will be restricted for all posts except draft posts. However, draft posts with a heading or info box block will still allow modifications.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else I can assist you with!

    Have a nice day!
