I’ve created a wordpress blog via the installation process in my cPanel through Fantastic. I’ve recieved the installation email & have logged into & editted my WordPress blog site however my live website is still showing my web hosts default page. I have obviously missed a step to make it go live…could someone please help! Do I still need to do an ftp transfer via fileZilla or something????

    TIA

  • Before I uninstalled everything I would checkthe files you have in your directory. If you have an index.php and an index.htm that may be the first item to check.

If you can log into wp-admin then you should have a good install so check and see if the files are present.

I do have an index.php & an index.html so do I need to delete these? When I view the index.html it shows my hosts default page.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I would rename index.html to something else, index.SAVE for example and try again.

You may need to ensure that your top level .htaccess file also allows index.php, though I think it should.

WOW YOU ARE A LEGEND!!!! It worked, thanks so much!!!

Never been a legend before…. Glad to help.

Thanks Guys ! I have the same issue and changed the name of index file to index.save My website still shows under construction page. Can you please explain the complete procedure on how to go live. I have edited my webpage through wp admin panel. but am not sure how to check the page after construction before going live. Please assist
I also tried using File zille and file manager but i dont see any files in my hard disk which can be uploaded to go live. what do we need to save on our hard drive to upload it from there to our website. and how we do it ??

Am very new to all this need your assistance urgently !!!

    Thanks in advance

I am a bit confused here, if you can see your web site default page there should be files in your web directory.

Can you copy and paste the URL you have in your browser bar when viewing the default page?

To upload you need to get the wordpress 3.0 zip file from https://www.ads-software.com/download/ and save it onto your local PC. Preferably in its own folder. Unzip the file and a directory called wordpress is created and ther are all the files you need inside.

CD down INTO the wordpress directory and copy to site if you want wordpress as the main part of your site, otherwise cteate a directory on your web site and move the files into that.

The above page has all the links to the how to install you should need.

You seem to have renamed the index.php file to index.save. It was the index.htm file I suggested should be renamed.

Rename your index.save back to index.php and see how you get on.

Thanks I have changes the same back.
Also when am trying to open my word press admin panel am getting below error :

Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/misguide/public_html/wp-admin/index.php on line 17

Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/misguide/public_html/wp-admin/index.php on line 17

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘./wp-blog-header.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/misguide/public_html/wp-admin/index.php on line 17

How shall i again open the admin panel ? do i need to edit some file ??

There is a message on the front page of your site

    – Site owner please upload your site to the public_html or the www folder –

From this I would think that you have put the files in the FTP area, not the root of your web site. Follow the error message and install in the correct directory. The FTP folder allows access one level highre than http access so you can have a ‘private’ area for files you may want to keep away from browsers, such as data files.

Am still getting error in going into admin panel.

Can you please assist to provide step by step process to move word press page as website homepage through cpanel file manager root directory..

    Thanks !!!

Sorry I can’t help here as I don’t use Cpanel. I would imagine thyat you need to first find out where you have actually installed the files. Is it in the same directory as one that has directories called public_html or www in it, or is it already IN one of those folders.

If you need to move it I would think that any file manager would have at least a copy files / delete files option. So copy the files to the right diorectory, once the files have been successfully copied delete the original files from the first directory.

You should have FTP access details, use something like Filezilla to copy files around. as this is installed on your local PC and doesn’t care what is happening on your server.

Thanks alot !!! I shall look for above options. Really appreciate all your help.
