I’ve just been told by someone from Optimole that apparently if we delete an image from the Media Gallery, it won’t automatically be deleted from Optimole?? Can I check that, that is indeed true please?

If so, that’s crazy, given that we have thousands of images across a number of different sites! Checking images one by one, then trying to find it on Optimole, then having to remove them manually will be a nightmare!

    Please can you confirm?

    Hey @cthompson89

Yes, that’s correct. I want to clarify that our image optimization process is performed in real-time as images are viewed on your website. This means that optimization is not done offline.

Optimole works by downloading a copy of your images to our cloud, optimizing them, and then serving them from our image CDN to your site visitors. The entire optimization process takes place in real-time and does not affect your original images stored on your server. That’s why the images present in Optimole library are separate from your original images, so deleting the one from the WordPress library doesn’t affect others and vice versa.

    I hope this explanation helps.

    Hi,

Yes, it is indeed true that deleting an image from the Media Gallery in WordPress does not automatically delete it from Optimole. This is because the Optimole cloud library is designed to be shared across multiple sites, allowing for a more flexible and unified media management system. This way, an image deleted from one site won’t inadvertently remove it from another site that is also using the same image.

We understand that managing thousands of images across different sites can be challenging. To help with this, there is a custom plugin tweak that can automate this process for you. You can install this tweak as a plugin in WordPress, and it will handle the deletion of images from Optimole when they are deleted from the Media Gallery.

You can find the custom plugin tweak here: Custom Plugin Tweak.

    I hope this helps.
