    Hello,

is there any way wit Yoast to change the permalink structure of my website or is something I have to do only within wordpress?

If yes, i want to change the permalink structure to my blog post, and only to my blog post. Categories and tags should stay as they are.

The blog posts are now like: mysite.com/category/post name but I want mysite.com/isola-di-govinda/post name. (isola di govinda is the name of my blog)

On the other hand, there is something important. For a plugin, I need this:

Inside WordPress under “Permalink” I have the custom permalink structure that is mysite.com//%category%/%postname%/ but for me it is important to have this to mysite.com/%postname%/

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards

    Hello @govisola,

Thanks for reaching out about your permalink structure. As we explain in?this article on why you should change your WordPress permalink structure, we highly recommend you use just?/%postname%/?for your site structure.

Please be careful with changing your permalinks if your site has been around for a while. Changing your permalinks if you already have a lot of content can lead to issues such as?404 errors. You can learn more at?https://yoast.com/help/how-do-i-change-the-permalink-structure/

For a seamless switch, after changing the permalink setting, we recommend using this?tool?to generate the correct code. Then, you add the code you generated to your site’s?.htaccess?file. Not sure how to edit the?.htaccess?file? We have a ‘How to’ guide available?here. We highly recommend testing first on a staging site.

    Hello @maybellyne

thank you for your response. All you said it is very important but there is always one point that is not solved: The blog posts are now like:?mysite.com/category_name/article_title?but?I want to be?mysite.com/isola-di-govinda/article_title. (isola di govinda is the name of my blog)

or with you answer you wanted to tell me also: do not use the permalink for you blog articles like this mysite.com/isola-di-govinda/article_title? But I want that people who visit my website or see a link understand that they are seeing a page in my website (a normal page) or a blog article of my blog… you know what I mean?

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards

    Hi @govisola

You can only change the permalink via WordPress > Settings > Permalink.

When I visited the post “I tanti atleti italiani lagnosi e manipolabili”, I noticed the URL is showing up as /isola-di-govinda/ and then the post_title.

Is the term isola-di-govinda a category? kindly help us understand this better.

    Hello @611shabnam

    thank you.

yes Isola-di-govinda is also a category. Now, my articles have many categories. I want that all my articles url have the same structure. For this article is for the category Berlino: https://giuseppegovinda.com/berlino/studiando-le-tecniche-piu-amate-da-andy-warhol/

So I want all my post articles to have this structure regardless of which category has mysite.com/isola-di-govinda/article-title and on the other hand the permalink structure inside the WordPress dashboard has to be mysite.com/%postname%/

So, yoast seo cannot make these changes, right?

Maybe a code? but in this case, you cannot help me, as I understand.

In the end is important that: if I ever decide to change the permalink structure inside the WordPress dashboard, I have to do that redirecting thing your colleague suggested to me. Right?

    Hello @611shabnam or @maybellyne

I might have found a way to label all the blog posts with the permalink mysite.com/isola-di-govinda/article-name thanks to a code that I put inside functions PHP. So now after that, you suggest me to use this tool to generate a code and put this code into the file .htaccess through Yoast Seo. But from your guide I don’t understand: should I the code add in a specific line or at the end before the line # END WordPress?

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

If you are referring to the .htaccess file, whatever you add in the file should be within # BEGIN WordPress and # END WordPress

@maybellyne I used?this tool?to generate the code and added it through Yoast into the .htaccess document. Is it normal that I cannot find it anymore when I search for it? I ask you because I first changed the permalink and added that code. Since it didn’t work I wanted to go back to my previous permalink, and when I went to the .htaccess date I could not find the code because I tried to delete it.

    Hi @govisola

From Yoast SEO plugin, we only offer the option to edit the .htaccess file. If the rules you have added are not showing on the file, it would be due to a permission issue or some restriction on your server. Kindly know that you need to contact your hosting provider to fix this.

thank you @611shabnam but if I say that on my staging website, the rule that I added through yoast into the .htaccess file didn’t disappear, they disappeared only on my normal website, is it always a question for my hosting provider?

    Hi @govisola

Yes, kindly contact the webhost to check why the rules you have added in your staging site’s .htaccess file has disappeared. As I mentioned in my previous response, from our plugin, we only offer the option to edit the .htaccess file.

    Hello @611shabnam

as I knew ionos doesn’t want to help me because what I do inside a plugin is not their business. Should I try to add that code on FileZilla directly inside the .htaccess?

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

this topic was not solved, you should not mark it as solved…. you didn’t solve anything.

If you are referring to the .htaccess file, whatever you add in the file should be within # BEGIN WordPress and # END WordPress

No, nothing has to be added between this twe placeholders with manual editing. Everything between them will be replaced on every permalink saving. Thanks to this tip, the user has lost his individual customization.

For a German WordPress installation, the handling of this part of the .htaccess is documented with this additional comments (just translated to english):

    # BEGIN WordPress
    # The instructions (lines) between “BEGIN WordPress” and “END WordPress” are
    # dynamically generated and should only be changed via WordPress filters.
    # All changes to the instructions between these markers will be overwritten
