After 5.8 update it is unusable on local installs

    The From field has to contain a valid domain, so it doesn’t accept any locally hosted domains, like this: https://d.pr/i/GaAmu2

    If I switch the email to something else, it tells me the email doesn’t match the domain.

    There is currently no way around this, so forms cannot be submitted on any local installation.

    That error is reported because wordpress@base is not a valid email address (at least is_email() will invalidate it).

    As written in the FAQ about configuration validator, the validation doesn’t affect behavior of a contact form, so the config validation error has nothing to do with the cause of your problem.
