We already optimized a 512×512 png file to use as a logo/favicon and we upload it to media, no problem. When we go to wp admin > customize > site identity > change image > we use the 512×512 image from our media, and when we save/publish, it creates a cropped image essentially a duplicate. I would understand this if the file is like 1000×1000 but the image used for the site identity is already at 512×512. What’s weird is that some logos I’ve used in past that are 512x png do not get cropped in this process. I would like to get to the bottom of this and is there any mod to the wp-config file where we can stop these cropped duplicates from occurring like this? We already have wp admin > settings > media > 0 values for thumbs, medium and large.

We used to see an option “skip cropping” in the past and using other themes, but not seeing the “skip cropping” option anymore when doing the image for site identity.

for reference other people discussing this issue…

  • Hello @wordmax

Hmm, I don’t think this would be a theme issue at all. The “site identity” feature of the Customiser is actually WordPress’, not ours.

I have tried a few tests and the image does get “cropped” (but not actually physically cropped) on both Blocksy and the default 2021 theme, which would confirm a WordPress issue. Check this out – https://streamable.com/g4zc83.

I do not get a “skip cropping” option either, on both Blocksy and the default 2021 theme.

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on why this happens. It would be recommended to contact the WordPress developers on GitHub (or their main trac) in order to get more information about this matter.

    Hope this clears things up!

    Thanks.

    Hi @wordmax ,
I experience the same issue. Have you found the solution? Can you share how to fix it?
Since last week, our favicon is not showed up in google.

I would very appreciate your tips.
    Thank you.
