Wordfence blocking WP user creation via 3rd party plugin

    Hi,

    We use Webnus Modern Events Calendar (https://webnus.net/dox/modern-events-calendar/)

    After a booking is made in MEC, a WP user is created for the participant using the email provided. However, many bookings are stored in the database that do not relate to a specific WP user and all have ID’s of 0.

    This causes the participant’s email to be uncorrelated by MEC, resulting in notifications not being sent and email placeholders not showing the information correctly.

    We discovered that disabling Wordfence solves this issue. Is there a setting that would block this functionality? Is there anyone that can assist us so we can use Wordfence moving forward?

    Hi @matthewegroves, thanks for getting in touch.

    Modern Events Calendar doesn’t appear to be incompatible with Wordfence. I only noticed a past vulnerability patched in July, so to ensure firewall measures we put in place to protect customers aren’t a factor here, you should currently be using 7.12.0 or later.

    On the assumption your version is already up-to-date, it looks like a false-positive block may be happening at some point during the user creation/booking process. Have you already tried enabling Learning Mode? You can read more about this and a method of manually allowlisting from the Live Traffic page here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/learning-mode/

    The failure you’re seeing is likely down to an incorrectly blocked plugin action that should be solved by trying the above methods. Live Traffic should present you with an “ADD PARAM TO FIREWALL ALLOWLIST” button if you trigger a block by trying to create a booking, then check the feed for it afterwards.
