• I need help with the video header in the twenty seventeen theme. I prefer to upload a video rather than use a link. However, the issue I am having is that upon uploading the video—the preview will show in the customizer but it does not appear in the header, only the original image does. I have tried different resolutions, different sizes (all under the 8mb limit), different time frames and even a different theme, but the same issue happens. I have also flushed the cache from WP dashboard and browser multiple times to no effect. The forums that I have found speak specifically to this issue being due to mobile view, but I am working on an desktop so it does not apply.Any help you can give would be appreciated, thank you!

  • Hello @slp18, thanks for reaching out!

I’ve tested this on a couple of test sites and using a YouTube url works and displays the video in the header, but not when the video file is uploaded.

Looks like you found a bug! I’ve reported my findings here: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/62117#ticket

You’ve mentioned you prefer the uploaded video, but in the meantime, you can consider using a YouTube video link, or add the video in the front page of the site instead of the header.

The term “mobile view” is not perfectly accurate. The video requires a minimum width of 900 pixels and a minimum height of 500 pixels by default, and zooming in would increase those values. The Customizer panel takes up 300 pixels, so the remainder of a desktop window could easily be under the minimum, too.

@kel-dc experienced an issue with the video, apparently on a large screen, but the video preview did not appear in the Customizer panel for that situation.
