    WARNING SHOP OWNERS:
This removes all USPS shipping rates, and you will no longer be able to take orders if you use USPS.

The worst thing its that this is a surprise and will break your ability to take orders while you troubleshoot, due to the underhanded and secret removal of features from your website. I’ve been involved in software development and this is very underhanded.

After installing this “upgrade”, you will start getting contacted by your customers with “there’s no shipping options available, I can’t check out!”

Woo used to include USPS shipping rates for free with their software, and many older website are grandfathered in, which is good and right. BUT If you install this update, they will remove your free USPS shipping rates without telling you, and you will be forced to pay a subscription to an additional replacement plugin.

If you are one of these grandfathered in websites you are probably using a plugin called “WooCommerce Shipping & Tax” which is currently at v. 2.8.1 and is the free plugin which gives you USPS shipping options. On that plugin page it says: “Attention: Shipping features have moved to a new dedicated plugin.” That means If you install this plugin, that plugin will no longer work and you will have to start paying for USPS shipping method and rate calculations.

This plugin is Woo’s ploy to scoop up all of the older website enjoying free USPS rates and force them to pay for the service that has been free for years.

@robotor I’ve removed the part about an alternative as that is not cool in a review.

    1. Feedback about the plugin code, css and experience using the plugin is valid.
    2. Feedback about the support experience is also valid and goes hand in hand with the user experience.
    3. Putting into the review something like “for a better experience use X or Y or Z” (it’s an example and not a quote) not so much. That part does not belong in a review here and I removed those last two sentences.

    Hi @robotor,

Sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. We did send out an email to all legacy live rates users of WooCommerce Shipping & Tax a couple of weeks ago and offered them a solution. If you did not receive this email then please contact support and we will assist further.

We also intentionally do not push in-app migration notices to users of legacy live rates in WooCommerce Shipping & Tax because we knew the functionality were not available to those users.

That being said we also made efforts to be accommodating to users like yourself relying on the legacy live rates so explored solutions. Yesterday we released an update to WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, v 2.8.2, that allows the existing live rates to function via that plugin alongside WooCommerce Shipping. Meaning you can gave have both WooCommerce Shipping and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax active at the same time and live rates will continue working via WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, and all the other shipping functionality will be available via WooCommerce Shipping.

Hopefully this shows our dedication to be accommodation and wanting to help all our customers and would make you reconsider your review.

    Thanks!
