Hi– I’m using a PayPal ‘Buy Now Button’ for a once-off membership fee but the payments received are not showing up in the transactions table and they are also not showing up under members… any advice on how to troubleshoot or remedy? Thank you!

Thank you for reaching out to us. Can you confirm that you followed the following instructions to create your PayPal Buy Now button?

No, I decided to continue using the regular ‘PayPal Buy Now Button’ which is what I’ve done for the past 3yrs. Is this a problem? And if so, why is it available as an option on the list of buttons?

    Is this a problem?

No, it is not a problem to keep using the standard PayPal Buy Now buttons. If that is the case, can you check the following documentation to make sure your settings are correct. Also can you use the testing section in the documentation to troubleshoot your issue.

Let me know how you go.

    Kind regards.

Hi, Standard PayPal buttons are prone to issues if the IPN feature is disabled in your PayPal account or if your server is blocking IPN messages from PayPal. In addition to @mbrsolution’s suggestion, enable the debug logging feature in the plugin and test a transaction following the steps outlined in the documentation below:

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/enable-debug-logging/

This will help you determine whether the communication with PayPal is functioning properly or if changes on your server or PayPal account have caused the issue.

Thank you @mbrsolution I will double check the button settings and @wpinsider-1 the IPN feature is enabled on PayPal so I will run a test and check the debug log.

Hi @wpinsider-1 I’ve discovered the issue…. PayPal only allows you to enter one unique IPN URL into your PayPal account, but I already have a WooCommerce Store on another domain so I have two unique IPN URLs. How can I remedy this? I see that Simple Membership is not listed on Zapier’s list of apps so I can’t use a zap.

You do not need to set an additional IPN (Instant Payment Notification) URL for our plugin. When you use a PayPal payment button configured within our plugin, it automatically instructs PayPal where to send the IPN message, as long as the IPN is enabled.

If you’re facing issues, it’s likely due to a firewall or a security configuration that blocks the IPN from reaching our plugin.

To avoid IPN-related issues altogether, consider switching to the new PayPal API setup offered in our plugin, which does not rely on IPN and thus eliminates such problems.

The following two documentation explains how to setup this new PayPal button option:

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-buy-now-buttons-paypal-api/

    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/create-paypal-subscription-buttons-paypal-api/

That should allow you bypass the issue.

Thanks! I’ve shifted to the New PayPal API Button. Next step is to add the previous payments manually… can you please tell me where to add the string of text that contains the wpam-tracking info provided by PayPal under the heading ‘custom’ which ultimately links the payment to the respective affiliate?

There are 3 fields at the bottom of the ‘Add A New Transaction; form, which one should contain the string of text so that it connects with the respective affiliate account.
    1. Transaction ID (already used for the transaction ID)
    2. Subscriber ID
    3. Status/Note
    Thanks in advance ??

The affiliate commission for past transactions must be provided manually if any affiliate-referred sales occurred. You can use the affiliate plugin’s manual commission feature for this.

Please note that our Simple Membership plugin does not handle affiliate commissions directly and does not support retroactive processing of such commissions.

Thank you for the tip for affiliate sales. I am grateful for all the help through this process.
