I discovered that my backup files are being automatically deleted immediately from the wpcontent/updraft folder after the backup finishes. While the backup is running I can see the backup files being created.

I have checked all settings, which seem ok. I get Updraftplus to also remotely backup to GoogleDrive, where the files are retained correctly.

    Any ideas please?

    Hi there,

Navigate to Settings >> Expert settings >> Show expert settings >> Delete local backup
If the option to Delete local backup is selected local backups will be deleted accordingly.

If you would like to keep local backups, please deselect this Delete local backup option.
Remember to click ‘Save Changes’ when making any adjustments to your plugin settings.

    Best regards,

    Hi Nick

The ‘Delete local backup’ is ticked, but I don’t remember changing it. The explanatory text for the checkbox reads as follows…

Check this to delete any superfluous backup files from your server after the backup run finishes (i.e. if you uncheck, then any files despatched remotely will also remain locally, and any files being kept locally will not be subject to the retention limits).

I’ve justed turned the ‘Delete local backup off in the settings and did a backup. Please to report the files are remaining on the server but I’m concerned that the retention settings won’t be obeyed (see last sentence of the above text).

    Hi there,

Thanks for the update, I’m glad that part of the scenario is now solved.

As far as I recall, the Delete local backup is enabled by default upon installation.
I too find the text a little confusing as my understanding is retention is applied.

I’m going to double check on the retention item and will update asap.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi there,

I ran a test and the retention rules were indeed applied to local backups.
Which means the text should be changed – thank you for highlighting it.

    Best regards,

    Nick
