I installed the plugin, but when I activate it, it says that the installation is not complete and requires a license. How is that? It should work for free, right?

  • Having done this a few times, after activating the plugin you need to go to its home page and request a free license. It will be sent via email with a link that when clicked will make your installation operational.

Why do we need such difficulties for free users? It only scares users and discourages them from using the plugin if it asks for some kind of license at the start.

    Hi @bahus,

For reasons of why we’ve changed the free signup process please take a look at the following blog post:?https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2022/11/wordfence-7-8-0-announcement/

Wordfence is very much still free and not a trial period. Any sites that installed the plugin before the free license changes in late 2022 will have had a key generated automatically by Wordfence, which would have continued to work.

However, new installations or reinstallations will require the following process (there’s a video in addition to text instructions): https://www.wordfence.com/help/api-key/#installing-your-free-license-key

There’s no limit to the amount of free sites a single email address can register, so if you have multiple sites to manage, you won’t be restricted in any way from getting the plugin set up.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
