• When I started my website ~10 years ago, there was an option to place a subscriber sign-up form in the sidebar, and I don’t recall this being associated with Jetpack (I could easily be wrong). All subscribers would, and continue to, receive an email notification any time a new post is published.

We recently overhauled our entire site and have a bunch of articles (posts) we need to publish, but we do not want our subscribers to be notified about them, as they’re not new, but rather older articles we’re publishing/republishing for various reasons.

I’ve been working on this for the last few days and continue to come up short, hence any assistance would be very much appreciated.

First off, while the subscription form used to be found in Appearance > Widgets, it’s no longer there, so it can’t be edited or even removed. When I got to Jetpack > Subscribers, I’m taken to the Jetpack website where a searchable list of all subscribers is displayed, leading to me believe this has always been associated with Jetpack. Either way, I see no option to disable automatic notifications here.

When I got to Jetpack > Newsletter, the top option is a toggle that says, “Let visitors subscribe to this site and receive emails when you publish a post.” When I turn this off, the subscription form remains on my sidebar. However, I’m curious – if I were to turn this off only when publishing articles we don’t want subscribers to be notified about, will that work, or are the notifications being sent from somewhere else?

What subscription plugin do you use? I recommend asking at that plugin’s support so its developers and support community can help you with this.
