• When a customer places an order directly on my website, the fee is applied correctly.

However, when I manually create an order and send the details via email, if the customer selects PayPal as the payment option, the fee isn’t charged. The same issue occurs if I send them the Customer Payment Page.

Is there a way to make this process automatic? Ideally, we don’t want to ask each customer for their payment method while negotiating.

I’m using the WooCommerce PayPal Payments 2.9.3 (Screenshot)

About the PayPal Fee situation, here is an example when the PayPal Fee is correctly charged to the customer:

And here is an example of when the PayPal Fee is NOT charged:

In the first case, you can see the “PayPal Fee” before the Shipping Details. In that case, the customer made all the process through our website.

In the second case, the “Paypal Fee” is not there. We sent the Customer Paymen Page Link to the customer.

I hope you can help me! Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hello @diezmesino

Thank you for reaching out with this issue.

Could you clarify whether you are using any custom code or a third-party plugin to apply the PayPal fee? This will help us better understand the situation and guide you more effectively.

In the meantime, if you are manually creating an order and sending it via email, you can also add the PayPal fee manually when creating the order.

Let us know if you need further assistance or details.

    Kind Regards,
    Krystian

    Hey Krystian.

No, I’m not using a third-party configuration. Just the PayPal plugin that I showed in my previous message.

The problem with adding the fee “manually” is that I have to ask my customer if he is going to pay with PayPal. This is very unprofessional and it’s not a good idea for us.

Is there a chance that this fee will be added automatically?

    Hello @diezmesino

    Thank you for your message.

    No, I’m not using a third-party configuration.?

To clarify, it’s not a default WooCommerce feature to automatically add fees for each payment gateway. Currently aach payment method on your checkout page has a different fee as Revolut at 3%, and from what I can see, PayPal is around 5%. This kind of functionality can be achieved with a third-party plugin. We would need to know the name of this plugin to reproduce this.

PayPal Payments itself does not have the functionality to charge the buyer extra fees. It displays the PayPal fees for each order on the admin order overview, but it cannot add those fees to the total the buyer pays because the plugin doesn’t know the PayPal fee before the payment is processed.

It’s also important to note that PayPal prohibits discriminatory fees, meaning it’s fine to add a general handling fee to all payment methods, but not to charge extra fees only for PayPal and not for other payment methods. You can review PayPal’s terms here: PayPal User Agreement.

Let me know if you need more details or assistance!

    Kind Regards,

    Hey Krystian.

    Thanks for your explanation.

Right now I’m a little confused about the way to charge the fee. The only plugin I have related to PayPal and its Fee is the mentioned one.

I mean, I can setup the fee through that Plugin, unless I’m not understanding your message correctly.

Do you think that his could have a solution?

    Waiting for your response!

    Hello @diezmesino

Based on the screenshot you provided, it seems that you’re not using the PayPal Payments plugin, so I may not be able to assist with other PayPal-related plugins. A system report should help clarify this, and I should have started by asking for it, sorry.

You can get the system report by following these steps:

    1. Navigate to WooCommerce > Status on your site.
    2. Click on the Get system report button.
    3. Copy it by clicking on the Copy for support button.

Please upload the report to our PrivateBin and share the link with us.

    Kind Regards,
    Krystian
