I just imported my blog from one host to another. Here’s the URL: https://aspigander.elementfx.com/

It seems that posts/pages that were made pre-import now lack their line breaks (though I fixed the pages by editing the posts and putting < p > tags where I wanted paragraphs). Also, the paragraph breaks do appear in the visual editor, just not in the posts/pages (that is unless I go to the HTML tab and put in the appropriate tag in the appropriate places).

The post I made after the import, does have paragraph breaks, but that is because I previewed it and discovered it would not have them so I popped on over to the HTML tab and put in the < p > tag.

And speaking of the editor, that brings me to the second problem. Sometimes when I go to edit, the text box isn’t there. As in, it doesn’t load. Also, once when I was making a new post, I hit save draft and all the text disappeared (so you would go to the draft, and the editor would be there but it would be empty, as if I never typed anything). Then there are times when the editor works just fine.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas/advice, I would greatly appreciate it. ??

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

    Thanks. ??

Okay, the paragraph break problem was resolved with your advice on deactivating and then reactivating the plug-ins one at a time. I found the offending plug-in and deleted it.

I still have problems with the editor. I tried the Twenty Ten theme and still had the text box not show up when I selected edit on a post (so switched back to the theme I was using). I also tried increasing memory available to PHP and still have the editor problem.

Okay, duh, it was a plug-in that caused my editor loading problem. Earlier I had assumed (don’t assume, it’s dangerous lol) that if I found the plug-in that caused one problem and eliminated it, that would eliminate the other problem if the other problem was a plug-in problem. Not sure why I thought that, but… Anyway, I deactivated all plug-ins and tested each one against the editor problem and found and deleted the offending plug-in.

I guess the take home message here is test each plug-in against all of your problems instead of assuming eliminating the plug-in that caused one problem will solve all plug-in related problems.

In case this might help someone down the road with similar problems, it was “WP Stop Profanity” that caused the paragraph break problem (since I have another profanity filter plug-in, I’m not sure why I even had that one activated). It was “Thoth’s Suggested Tags” that messed with the editor.

Without the plug-in I just narrowed down and deleted, I’ve hit edit on several posts and the editor loads beautifully. So I am going to go ahead and mark the thread as resolved. Thanks Esmi! ??

    No problem ??
