• Hello ??

I just bought a domain at GoDaddy, without the web hosting product as I couldn’t afford it. And since I’m not really a guru when it comes to hosting of websites I’m kinda stuck already.

So I just bought a domain and I have no idea what to do now. I obviously need to make a database, but do anyone know a free database that supports GoDaddy domain or something? Because I can’t afford the database that GoDaddy suggests.

And I’ll probably use the database with the Firefox plugin Fireftp, if that helps.

Would be greatful if anyone could help me ??

    Thanks in advance;
    Peter.

  • You will need some sort of “web host” service from someone, it doesn’t have to be GoDaddy its just common practice for web hosting services to be offered with domain name registrations.

Without some sort of web host service you will not be able to use your domain name for WordPress or most anything else.

You can use wordpress.com with the domain name you have is free with restrictions check https://wordpress.com untill you comfortable and learned how to use wordpress and then may be move it over to your own host in future.

Cais, you know of any easy-to-use and free web host services? ??

We typically don’t recommend free hosting providers around here, as they frequently offer crippled servers that prevent WordPress from operating properly.

If you’d like a free WordPress blog, try https://wordpress.com/

But can I use my own domain with a WordPress blog? Because the layout of regular WordPress blogs fits my usage perfectly, but I would like to have my own domain, and only my own domain in the URL.

Thanks for replies btw, really appreciate it! ??

Yes you can use your own domain name with wordpress.com check with them.

Yes, specifically you can map an existing domain to your WordPress.com blog by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

a similar story: bought a domain and bought hosting from “dreamhost”. when i ask to connect to wordpress to begin building a site they say my “domain is invalid”. i think i should be typing in my *******.net here, correct? why will it not give access to wordpress?

@pjvogtr Did you change DNS at the registrar of your domain name to point to dreamhost.

    also a similar story:

I bought a domain and hosting from dreamhost.com. I tried clicking on the WordPress One-Click Install but when I enter my information, I get this message:

    —————-

Whoops! There was an error while trying to install wordpress for you!

Invalid Domain: XXXXX.com is already being used in our system!

Simple mode oneclicks may only be installed on domains (or subdomains) that are not already fully hosted. Either delete the web hosting for XXXXXXX.com, or install your application to a new subdomain of XXXXXX.com.

    —————-

I tried installing it to a subdomain, but I got the same error. Does this mean I cannot use WordPress for my site?

You need to check with your host with problem if this is fresh install.
