• Hello, I create audio and video (horror) to share on my site.
WordPress offers video and audio article formats, except that none of my files work by url when choosing the audio or video article format.

I have to host my audios and videos on another platform (youtube) to be able to display them on my site and I’m not interested, especially when you know what duplicate content can do…

Is there a way around this via the function.php file so that I can add my media (mp4, webm, mp3 etc…) url with post formats?

    Thank you ??

  • What exactly when you see the URLs don’t work?

Does the video/audio player not appear at all?

Is the player simply non-responsive? Or is there some playback error? And what’s the specific error, if any?

Can you provide a URL on your website where we can test this?

No, there’s no error and it’s displayed as in the attached image https://ibb.co/X2ybvxM. I asked around and was given this url https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/embeds/ which explains why it doesn’t work and that’s why I’m making this request.

Edit : my urls can come from other sites than those provided by wordpress or download in my media when possible.

I’m not sure what you mean by “adding media URLs with post formats“(my emphasis). Maybe the following will help anyway.

You often cannot directly link to media files on third party sites due to CORS restrictions, you may need to use a link related to the oEmbed process which you typically get through some sort of share or embed option on the third party’s site. It is possible to upload your own media files to your WP site and have them appear on a page using the browser’s built-in player. It’s thus feasible to download media from other sites, then upload to your WP site. Be sure to check for any licensing terms if you copy media from other sites.

You might find that the WP media library will refuse to upload certain file formats. This can be remedied through the “mime_types” filter by adding a new file extension along with the proper MIME type designation for the file. However, this does not mean a user’s browser is capable of displaying or playing the newly added file format.
