• Why is it that every time WP updates appear, they wreck so many sites?
We have three websites, and on two of them, all images disappeared when the 6.7 update was completed. Fortunately, we have learned our lesson from past failures and can immediately use our backup copies, but it should not be happening.
We have not updated the third (and most important) site.
From now on, whenever there’s a big WP update, we’ll wait for the patch.

  • Hi @andynick,

Sorry that you are experiencing issues with the update. Could you provide more details to help us determine what is happening?

    • When you say disappeared, do you mean the media library in the admin is empty? The images 404 and won’t load? Something else?
    • Are there any related errors in your debug.log?
    • Are there plugins or a theme in common with the two sites that you experienced the problem with?
    • Could you maybe try updating the site in a staging environment and deactivating them one by one to figure out if they are causing the problem?

I understand this is frustrating, but there’s not much actionable information in the original description.

    Hello Jonathan,
    Thanks for your interest.
Basically, all images disappeared from pages and posts.
I’m not sure about the Media Library, but I think the images were still there. On this occasion the problem only arose if I wasn’t logged-in. That’s why it took a while to realise it had happened. I upgraded to 6.7 and on this occasion all seemed OK – until later, when I was told it was not!
Debug was not enabled – is there any retrospective info I can dig up?
Both sites use Twenty TwentyFour, and have Yoast, Clean Talk etc – but as all the images were there if an admin was logged-in, I don’t see how that can make a lot of difference.
I tried updating WP on staging, and the symptoms were exactly the same.
The domain is https://sheepdog-training.com – but all should be working now (I hope)!
    Thanks again for your help,
    Andy
