My hosting company just installed WordPress for me, I’m working my way through the tutorials, but I don’t seem to have access to the Site Editor.

The tutorial says that from my Dashboard I can select Appearance -> Editor at which point I should see the Site Editor displaying my blog home template. But what I actually see is a blank screen with a horizontal line that looks like it’s trying to build something, but nothing ever happens.

I think I’m running the 2024 theme under WP 6.7.

Does this make sense? If so, does it sound like it’s something I can fix myself? Or does it sound like something was misconfigured by my hosting company?

Based on the description, I suspect a server-side error that led to a JavaScript error in your browser, which in turn caused the loading bar to show no progress.

Which theme are you using? If it is not a standard theme (like TwentyTwentyFive) then I would recommend activating one first to rule this out as the cause.

If that doesn’t help, my recommendation would be to check on the server side to see if an error is occurring there. You can find this in the error log in the hosting. Alternatively, you can also set WordPress to debug mode, see: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

You can also look in the JavaScript console of your browser to see whether and which error is displayed there at that moment. See: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/advanced-administration/debug/debug-javascript/
