• Every now and then I look back at past posts to view reader comments. I find that comments are closed although I have set “Allow people to post comments on new articles.” Some comments are only a few weeks old and I know that “Allow Comments” were set when I created the post.

I believe comments get closed whenever I upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. The last time I upgraded, I noticed that all comments were closed. I went back through each post and re-enabled comments. After the last upgrade, they’re all closed again.

Can the WordPress developers look at why this is happening and stop it in future upgrades? Can they issue an upgrade that allows us to globally re-open comments without having to go through each post and do it manually?

    Thank you.

Are you using plugins? If you are, perhaps you want to try deactivating them before updating WordPress next time.

Check your comment settings under Settings -> Discussion. Especially Automatically close comments on articles older than. I’ve not encountered this on any of the blogs that I manage.
