Cant Add Widgets

Hi all,

Wonder if someone could help,

I have just installed wordpress for the first time and have found a theme i like, the problem i ahve is its not letting me add widgets and i really want a drop down menu.

As anyone any ideas how i do this ???

webdesigner/coder could be of some use me thinks ??
