    Server=Linux
    PHP=8.1.30
    MySQL=8.1.30
    WP=6.7
    Theme=template monster https://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/free-minimalistic-religious-wordpress-design-198991.html

    New/clean install of WP from Softaculous/cpanel on a “testing folder”

    My customer would like to use the template monster (free) theme (linked above). They have also chosen 2 other themes of interest. All 3 cause a critical error and WP goes dark. Resetting the theme to any “stock” theme (23,24,25) brings everything back.

    The theme uses Cherry (3.1.5.1) as the main framework. Activating just the Cherry theme also throws critical error.

    I am leaving the error message at the domain since this is just testing and not live AND I have enabled verbose errors (in PHP) which gives more info.

    I am assuming that the theme is not compatible with WP 6.7 or PHP 8.1. Before I move away from what my customer has chosen as their starting point (or roll back the WP install to an earlier version), I thought I would ask “the heard” if they think the same and that I am on the right track with this. I am going to keep working so the error may change or even disappear (oh I wish)

    Clicking the link to the site will show the errors.

    Here are the lines from the LOG file

    [19-Nov-2024 18:36:12 UTC] PHP Warning: Trying to access array offset on false in /home/plainsiteorg/public_html/wp/wp-content/themes/CherryFramework/functions.php on line 125

  • The theme does not seem to be compatible with the PHP version used. This can only be solved by the support or developer of the theme. You would therefore have to contact them.

    Since every theme that fails uses the CherryFramework, including the CherryFramework itself, I recommend contacting them: https://www.cherryframework.com/contacts/

    With that said, their site hasn’t been updated since 2017, and their support forums are broken, so honestly I recommend avoiding them entirely.

    If they don’t respond to you, you have 2 choices:

    1. Hire someone to update the theme for you and make it compatible with modern WordPress. If you do that, try https://jobs.wordpress.net/ (and do not accept any hire or direct access offers posted to these forums, as that is against the forum guidelines and not a great way to start a business relationship).
    2. Choose any other theme.

    I recommend using a block theme, these are all free: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/tags/full-site-editing/

    Block themes use the new Site Editor, meaning that how you can modify a theme is now almost limitless without even having to touch CSS: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/site-editor/

    There’s also a video tutorial if you prefer that style: https://learn.www.ads-software.com/tutorial/intro-to-the-site-editor-and-template-editor/

    Thank you for your response

    No Support for free themes.

    I did roll back PHP to 7.4 and things cleared a bit.

    I’ll see if this is the resolution or if there are going to be other issues using WP 6.7 in PHP 7.4 I can always roll back WP to an earlier release if I need to.

    If anyone wants to comment on PHP7.4 & WP6.7 compatibility issues please join in

    Thanks

    WordPress 6.7 requires PHP 7.4 or higher, so at the very least, that’s compatible.

    I truly recommend finding a different theme though. Starting a project with a theme on the razor’s edge of compatility will be bad for both you and the client in the long run.

    Thank you for your help

    I’ve asked my customer to look at the block themes you suggested.
