    Hi there,

After changing my hosting provider, I can see my Kadence-based website shows the generic round-W WordPress icon. I am pretty sure that I removed it when I was building the site, so I am wondering what caused the issue. I asked the new provider to make sure they transferred all files correctly since there is a change but they ignored the question. I logged in to the WordPress management to delete the icon, but all I see in “Site identity” is the option to “Select site icon”, there isn’t one selected or anything to remove – so how should I proceed?

    Hi @wordzebra,

Thanks for reaching out. I’ll be glad to help!

The WordPress icon you are seeing is the default icon. To remove it, you need to set the Site Identity icon to an image. If you don’t have one set, the default will show. WordPress recommends a 512×512 square image.

Give that a try and let me know if that fixes the issue.

    Thanks!

    Hi @aapc ,

In all the generic themes (Twenty-Twenty something etc.), the icon can be removed without the need to make a custom one. Why would it not be the case with Kadence?

I do not want a particular icon for this site, and adding an empty square to fake it would create problems – such as it will show different colours on different browser, or even if I make it a transparent, it will take place and displace the formatting in viewers’ browser tabs etc.

There should be an option to simply remove the icon!

    Best regards

    Hi @wordzebra,

Unfortunately the blue “W” icon has been a “feature” of WordPress since version 5.4 which was released in 2020. It’s possible your old hosting provider was blocking requests for or had a blank favicon.ico file on your site. I tested this by spinning up a blank WordPress 6.7.1 install running the Twenty Twenty-Five theme and no Kadence theme or plugins installed. The site icon is the blue “W” and I don’t see a way to turn it off. Can you tell me how you’re able to turn if off with the WordPress themes?

The only way I know of to get rid of the “W” icon is to either upload your own (blank or otherwise) or I found an older plugin that still seems to work: WP Favicon Remover

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Anthony
