I would like to remove the rotator from my blogs. I’ve tried it with the ftp client FileZilla by downloading it to my computer and then deleting it from the remote side, but when I do that, a warning comes up on the blog. I’ve emptied the rotator of photos, but a box remains on the blog with an X in it. Is there a way to make the rotator disappear completely? My blogs are: https://1stspanish.com and https://slingingthebull.com.
    Thanks for you help,
    Doug Eikermann

  • I didn’t see any rotator, just an empty box on the sidebar… if it’s that, you can check if it is a widget by going in the widget section of your dashboard and removing it…

if this theme is not widget ready you’ll have to remove it manually, try checking the file sidebar.php (or similar) inside your theme’s directory… ??

Thanks for responding. I’m using WordPress with the Thesis Theme. I believe the rotator came with the original WordPress installation. I’ve removed the photos from the rotator, so that’s why you see an empty bow on the sidebar.

When I download the rotator to my computer and delete it from the site (using the ftp client), a warning message appears on the site in place of the box on the sidebar. The rotator, to my knowledge, is not a widget. It’s part of the WordPress installation package. I would like to remove the rotator and retain the option to replace it in the future, if I choose. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I didn’t find a way to download this theme, so I can’t give a look at it, however, have you tried looking in the widgets section of your admin area? If this rotator is a widget then you should be able to remove it from the sidebar… If this theme as a dynamic sidebar but you didn’t put any widgets in it, try adding some widget and the rotator should disappear automagically ??
On the other hand, if this theme doesn’t support widgets, then you’ll have to look for the “sidebar.php template file inside your theme directory and remove the section for the rotator, usually it’s a li enclosed section or maybe a div… At least paste the whole sidebar.php code somewhere and we’ll give it a look for you ??

    bye

The Thesis Theme does support widgets, but the rotator is not a widget. It doesn’t show up anywhere on the widgets display in the admin area. I think it’s part of the WordPress installation, but when I remove the folder from the site using the ftp client, a warning message appears in the rotator’s place on the site. I would like to remove or relocate the rotator, and I’m sure I’m not the first blogger to want to do so. It seems to me that WordPress should already have a relatively easy way to do this, without having to know php and manipulate code. I’ll take a look at the code to see if I can find the section you refer to. Thanks again for your help.
