ability to add oEmbed Urls
-
Can this be added to FIFU? Or is there a plugin that allows this feature ?
-
No, @mukeshwan,
Because oEmbed URLs return JSON instead of image files =)
Could you please explain better?
Hi Marcel, thank you for the quick response. I’m looking for functionality where I can insert a Canva oEmbed link. In Canva we make our featured images, and to make process efficient, we’d like to use the oEmbed feature. We already use Canva oEmbed links in the Body of the posts in WP which works great. Hope this helps.
Thank you for providing more details.
I believe you are referring to some kind of embed code.
Please provide me with an example of it—similar to what you are using in the post body—and I will analyze it.
Here is a sample. This is the URL from Canva.

Thank you.

It is a webpage with an image as the main content, so it will not work.
- Y is an intermediate image URL that redirects to Z. As Y is fixed, it is usually what you need to use. However, there are limitations because canva.com has implemented hotlink protection, including human verification. This prevents FIFU from accessing the image programmatically and delivering optimized thumbnails. For now, you would need to disable FIFU > Settings > Image > Optimized Thumbnails. In the next version, I will try to include an exception for images from canva.com. While they still won’t be optimized, you will at least be able to enable Optimized Thumbnails again to optimize images from other sources.
- Z is the final image URL. However, it SHOULD NOT be used indefinitely because it is temporary and will be automatically invalidated after some time. To avoid losing the image, before it expires you can use features like FIFU Cloud or FIFU > Settings > Image > Save in the media library.
There is currently no perfect solution for images from canva.com due to the hotlink protection they have implemented. Images from Facebook and Instagram face similar issues.
Thanks for the detailed explanation and enhancements you are able to make to the plugin to accommodate. I’ll look to getting the Pro version and use FIFO Cloud

FIFU uses the same structure as local featured images from your media library, so you typically don’t need to change anything to have the remote featured image displayed by the theme. Simply go to the “Featured Image” box added by FIFU and enter the image URL.
If you are a new FIFU user, you might want to start by creating a new post with a non-protected image URL like this:
https://ps.w.org/featured-image-from-url/assets/icon-256×256.pngOnce it works and is displayed, replace it with the image URL from canva.com, which is more prone to issues due to the reasons I have explained.
Thanks Marcel. I’ve purchased the Pro license and will try out the Z url and option to save media.
Thank you so much, @mukeshwani.
