• I set up an instance of WP on a local network. The root index file will load, but every other page serves up some kind of 404 error with an “Oops! This link appears to be broken” message.

I’m NOT using “localhost” for the URL or 127.0.0.1 as the IP. I’m using a dedicated IP that I set specifically for the machine.

Anyone have any useful links or advice?

  • Re you using custom permalinks? Is mod_rewrite running on the server?

If by “custom permalink” you mean NOT the default, then yes. I’m using the /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ option which is labeled “Month and name.”

I’m trying to SSH into the machine now to test for mod_rewrite. Don’t know why that’s not working. Maybe I forgot to open the port. Will have to come back to the mod_rewrite part of the advice later.
