Identical slugs Product Categories showing wrong language

When using identical slugs for product categories in WPML, the correct language version is not displayed. For example, the Dutch category “sneakers” incorrectly shows the English version, even though a Dutch translation exists. Impact on SEO and user experience is huge!
- If the slug in Dutch is slightly modified (e.g., “-nl”), the correct description and language appear.
- The issue persists regardless of plugin settings like Rank Math’s “Remove category base.”
- Occurs only when the slug is identical across languages.
Troubleshooting Attempts:
- Cleared all caches after every change.
- Disabled all plugins, including Rank Math.
- Reset permalinks.
- Tested with different themes.
- Verified translated slugs in WPML.
Symptoms:
- The frontend always defaults to the primary language (English) when slugs are identical.
- Editing the category redirects to the primary language instead of the translated version.
