Always asking for Server connection info when upgrading

Hello,

I’m having issues with my WP installation that bother me greatly. I run two WP blogs with the same host; one is working smooth and flawless, the other is giving me hell every time something needs to be upgraded. Take the plugins as an example: I get an upgrade notification, go to Plugins, deactivate the plugin in question and then click “upgrade automatically”. Blog #2 is done within seconds, no problems. Blog #1 asks for server connection info, then takes about a minute or two until it spits out an error that it was unable to create a directory, copy a file or whatever.

Both blogs are identically set up so I’m at a loss as to what could be the cause of #1’s erratic behavior.

I intend to do a fresh install for #1 anyway hoping that it’ll resolve the problem, but I’d like to understand what went wrong anyway, so thanks in advance for any clarification. ??
