Dashboard, site not accessible, get "function require" messages

    WP Version: 3.0.1
    Theme: MyStream
    Problem: can’t access dashboard or website. See message below.
    This is what I did:
    Manually upgraded WP to 3.0.4:
    1) updated plugins,
    2) disabled plugins,
    3) deleted wp-admin and wp-includes,
    4) uploaded 3.0.4 wp-admin and wp-includes,
    5) uploaded the entire 3.0.4. wp-content file to the root directory for Scribbler’s Travels (that did not follow WP’s guidelines for manual upgrade). I did not replace the 3.0.1. wp-content file with the 3.0.4 file.
    6) uploaded the remaining “loose” files to the root directory.
    7) re-activated the plugins.

    Result: I can’t access my dashboard or my website. I get this message:

    Warning: require(/home/content/s/c/r/scribblerlinux/html/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/s/c/r/scribblerlinux/html/wp-settings.php on line 19

    Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/s/c/r/scribblerlinux/html/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/s/c/r/scribblerlinux/html/wp-settings.php on line 19

    Since then, I have reversed the process,
    – disabling plugins (that was while I could still access the dashboard),
    – re-uploading the backup wp-admin and wp-includes,
    – uploading individual files of wp-content.

    Same results

    How do I get back to my dashboard?

  • Change theme to default twentyten theme by renaming MyStream folder name to e.g. mystream2 via FTP/cPanel

    Thanks, mercime. This is how things worked out:

    Renamed MyStream folder as you recommended,
    uploaded it to remote site,
    but didn’t get any change.

    Any other thoughts?

    You rename the MyStream folder in server via FTP or cPanel, not rename it in your hard drive and upload. What we’re trying to do is deactivate the MyStream theme so that default twentyten will kick in. You mentioned that you deactivated all plugins prior to upgrade, the remaining possible glitch to upgrade would be your current theme.

    Renamed the folder on the remote site. Getting same function require response.

    Permissions? If the file / folder permissions are not correct then it will be the same as if the app cannot find the file.

    Thanks, mercime and mardala. I called GoDaddy last night. The consultant recommended the same tactic you recommended, mercime. We tried renaming another file, but that didn’t work. So I got the details that I didn’t figure out for myself about re-installing everything. Did that and the site is up and running.
