• I have just installed Twenty Ten. I desperately wanted it because of the drop-down menu, however, try as I might I can not get it to function.

I have a space between the parent and sub-menu – when I try to move the cursor down to the sub menu the sub menu disappears.

I have tried creating a custom menu – same problem. I have tried deactivating my plugins – no change. I have checked it on IE 8, Safari and Google Chrome – there is no difference on to the other. I even tried changing the spacing between the parent and submenu – no luck.

Here is a link so you can see what I’m talking about: https://www.theinquiry.ca/wordpress/

I notice too that for some reason my menu tabs are larger than those I see on other Twenty Ten sites. That’s just the way it showed up – I did not choose the blue background, nor did I choose the oversized button links.

When I was trying to correct the problem and creating one menu after the other I got an error message every time I deleted a menu:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/cornwall/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/search-unleashed/engines/default.php on line 119

Sometimes the message would repeat for an entire page.

I found too that the search feature in the customize menus section didn’t work. While that would be nice I could live with that, but perhaps it’s part of my problem so I decided I should mention it.

As you can probably tell I have very limited technical expertise. I desperately need help. I would like to get the drop-down feature functioning and then I can carry on getting the site tailored to operate with Twenty Ten. There are other things I would like to change, but this is the big one. I have very large database, but I don’t believe that should make a difference?

Please, please, can anyone help me?

  • Are you using a plugin to change the menu at all? Looking at the files there is a menu.css file that is causing the issues.

Removing the CSS code from this file will fix the menu dropdown issue that you are having. You can also just remove the entire menu.css file and it should fix the issue as well.

It may be possible to go into the Editor page under the Appearance section located on the left hand side when you are logged in the Dashboard. On the right hand side of the Editor page you should see a list of files. If you can see a menu.css file listed there, click on that file.

It should open up that file within the page and you should see some text. Erase all of the text that shows up and make sure to click the blue Update File button.

Let me know if this solves your issue.

    Thank you JarretC

Perhaps I do have a plugin ehich is changing the menu. I have been using WP CSS Dropdown menu before I changed to Twenty Ten. I did try deactivating and ity made no difference. Should I perhaps remove it completely? I hate to get rid of it because that’s the one which lists all of the Accused down the right menu and people are accustomed to going there to look up a name.

Perhaps I will go ahead and remove it completely. If that doesn’t do the trick I can always reinstall it.

I am looking for the menu.css file – can’t find it a glance but I will keep looking. Is it tucked inside one of the Templates or Styles Files?

Anyway, first off I shall try removing the plug in and will see what happens. I will let you know what happens.

That did it!! I am ecstatic. Thank you so much JarretC. The plugins needed to be removed completely.

What a difference! A thousand thanks ?? That was so simple. I have fretted for hours on end trying to get it to work – so so simple. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I don’t know if it’s proper to loop in another question on the same thread. You have been such a help JarretC that I would like to pose two more issues. I will try.

    (1) How can I get the “comments” link to show at the top of the page rather than at the end of a blog. I think people like to see how many comments there are on a blog without scrolling to the foot.

    (2) The same for the Edit link. How can I move that up to the top? I am finding it is a real nuisance having to scroll down when I want to access a blog or page for corrections

I am using the Twenty Ten, have parent and subpages, but no drop down will show at all. What to do but name the pages parent and sub?
