  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

Thanks for the QUICK reply. I will do the plug-in deactivation thing. I did NOT try that yet.

I am weary of switching the theme. Can it do any permanent damage or will everything switch back fine? Perhaps if this does solve my issue will I have to lose my theme or might there be an easy theme fix?

It should switch back just fine.

will I have to lose my theme or might there be an easy theme fix?

Impossible to say at this stage…

I deactivated every plug. That didn’t seem to help.

I then ran the new Twenty Ten theme. That didn’t help.

    Any other ideas?

Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

I do appreciate your help! This didn’t seem to do it either.

    oh wait…before I just hit this link…

    https://www.ryanontheradio.com/?cat=1&paged=4

Now when I actually scroll through(back) they appear. so, how do I make my theme work??

OK – if you check https://www.ryanontheradio.com/?cat=1&paged=3, you’ll see that there is no “previous posts link” at the bottom of the page, In other words, no page 4.

My guess is that your previous theme is using code or custom queries that have effectively broken the Loop – leading to a spurious “Page 4” link.

huh…I also notice the twenty ten theme is putting more entries (double) on each page. Obviously my theme thinks its putting 20 but only actually putting 10 thus losing the rest on the spurious page 4. You’ve got me started. Thanks. Now perhaps I change themes?

It would certainly be the simplest solution. I’ve got a nagging feeling that correcting the code in that theme could be hard work.

thanks to you…I have made a quick fix…I simply changed the amount of posts the theme will display on a page – category, search and tag. now its 20 and everything is showing up by page 3. Of course once I add I think 4 more posts, I am doomed

That’s the problem with these kinds of fixes – they bite back and mean you have to remember to re-adjust your “posts per page” setting every so often.
