Your Take On The WYSIWYG Editor Fr WP 1.5?

I played with this on my test blog and it’s kind of spiffy. I will give a few drawbacks to it, though:
1. you can’t shorthand links – i.e. /somefile rather than https://yoursite/somefile because it defualts to adding in the link to where you happen to be (inside wp-content) before it.
2. it doesn’t produce completely valid XHTML, so if you’re a stickler for validation, this could drive you insane. (my site is valid 1.1, so it’d really be a pain for me)
3. if you edit a post and say, for instance, use the raw html editor to fix something the plugin doesn’t produce (like some div class you have), it’ll delete the entire post. in fact if you use custom html, it sometimes will render it oddly – like html entitles such as superscripts.

It’s a nice plugin for the non-xhtml savvy or those that really hate typing out HTML code. But I personally don’t find it that useful for my needs. The smilies are neat, though!

I am using WYSI-Wordpress and here’s my opinion on it:
1. It works best only in Internet Explorer, with Firefox having serious problems when you try to open dialog boxes while selecting content from the text area.
2. You need the hack from the mudbomb.com WYSI-Wordpress comments to make possible to turn on and off the WYSIWYG text area so you can work with HTML.
3. It seems to strip some code it doesn’t like, I had <span> tags disappearing from my post when you change from WYSI to normal text area and back.

I’m creating my first blog theme for a friend who is not very good with basic html tags. I installed the WYSI for her and she loves it.

I personally don’t like it as much because I’d rather hand code most of my tags when I want to do something more sophisticated. However, for quick posts it’s awesome.

A note of caution — if you open a previously hand-coded entry with the WYSI, I’ve noticed it tends to strip out the code. This doesn’t happen with any of the WYSI generated entries and I didn’t notice it until I went back and looked at an earlier entry only to find NO formatting on it! LOL.

You definitely need the hack from mudbomb.com if you want to be able to use the quicktags or coldforge’s spellchecker with your WP. Simply add the “on/off” button per his instructions and then be sure to remove the part of the code he inserted that says “nuke quicklinks” (you’ll see it in the comment section.

Basically it has it’s place and is easy to use but if you like to hand-code you’ll want to include the toggle and quicklink fixed. ??
